Every week this season, Shore Conference football fans will have their chance to vote for the Ocean County Sports Medicine Shore Conference Football Player of the Week on our website. The winner of the poll each week will receive a $25 gift card to Burger 25 in Toms River.

The winner of the Week 8 Player of the Week award is Pinelands senior quarterback Ryan Allen as the Wildcats fans voted one of their standout seniors into the top spot for the second straight week. Allen completed 9 of 11 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns to help lead Pinelands to a 48-14 victory over Manchester for its fourth straight win.

Allen tossed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Mike Frawley, a 39-yard touchdown pass to Steve Borden, and a 42-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Rucci Jr to send Pinelands to a five-touchdown victory over Hawks. On the season, Allen has thrown for 811 yards and eight touchdowns with just two interceptions and has rushed for 315 yards and a touchdown on an average of 6.4 yards per carry.

Pinelands won its season opener under first-year head coach John Tierney, 19-14 over Point Beach, but then suffered three straight defeats by a combined 10 points. Following a 28-27 overtime loss to Matawan, the Wildcats regrouped and have put together a four-game winning streak with victories over Lakewood (35-6), Jackson Liberty (12-7), Monmouth (12-7), and Manchester (48-14) to improve their season record to 5-3. It is the first time Pinelands has won five games in a season since 2010.

Pinelands has just six winning seasons all-time with its latest coming in 2004. Although the 'Cats did not qualify for the NJSIAA state playoffs, they are playing in the new Regional Invitational Tournaments and can potentially play three more games. Pinelands will begin its postseason in the South Group 3 RIT on Thursday night when it hosts Triton Regional in a first-round game.

Allen won a relatively close poll by securing 28.31 percent of the votes. Marlboro's Matt Cassidy was second and Toms River East's Jake Bruckman was third.
