No. 13 Manalapan 3, Colts Neck 1

Senior Kevin Rusinak pitched a one-hitter and classmate Erik Johnson drove in a run in the third straight game to open the season to help the Braves upend the Cougars.

Johnson drove in a run during the first inning to put Manalapan ahead, 1-0, and the Braves added two runs in the fifth on a fielder's choice and an error.

Junior Vinny Alcure ripped a go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the fifth and senior left-handers Mason Christopher and Brevin Bezick combined on a dominant outing on the mound as the Eagles edged the rival Lions in their season-opener.

Christopher surrendered an unearned run that gave Middletown North a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Bezick took over in the fifth and faced one batter over the minimum while striking out seven.

Triur Brown, Jake Howlett and Mike Horowitz each cracked two-run doubles and sophomore left-hander Christian Suarez turned in his second straight solid outing to start his varsity career as the Crimson Knights paid the Falcons back after losing to Monmouth in the bottom of the seventh on Saturday.

Brown opened the scoring with an RBI double in the bottom of the first and after Evan Booth hit a solo homer to cut Wall's lead to 3-1 in the top of the sixth, Howlett and Horowitz each wrapped two-run doubles in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach.

No. 15 Jackson Memorial 6, No. 9 Brick Memorial 4 (8 Innings)

The Jaguars scratched two runs across with two out in the top of the seventh and junior Jackson Osmond came through with a two-run single to break the tie in the top of the eighth to complete a come-from-behind win for the Jaguars over the Mustangs.

Down to its last out and with two runners on in the top of the seventh, Jackson Memorial tied the game with a walk by Nick Izzo, hit-by-pitch by Tyler Huzzy and a game-tying RBI walk by Jacob Soto.

Senior right-hander Roger Dreher dominated for 5 1/3 innings and Jack Cahill worked out of a seventh-inning jam to close out a Rams win over the Indians.

Dreher struck out 14 while allowing just two hits and one walk on 79 pitches before turning it over in the bullpen. Cahill took over with the bases loaded, none out and Southern leading, 6-1, in the bottom of the seventh and after striking out the first batter he faced, Billy Madigan singled home another run for Toms River South.

Cahill then responded with back-to-back strikeouts to finish off the win.

Brian Harper, Mike Kaczynski and Tyler McLeod each singled home a run in the first inning for Southern and Gabe Tomei doubled home two runs to put the Rams ahead, 6-0, in the top of the fourth.

Red Bank 10, No. 7 Ranney 7

Tommy Ruth, Jake Pouso and P.J. Whitehead each contributed a two-run base hit during a seven-run sixth inning that propeled the Bucs to a come-from-behind win over the Panthers.

Ruth doubled home two to cut Ranney's lead to 6-5 and Red Bank tied it when Hoyt Smith was hit with the bases loaded. On the next batter, Pouso hit a two-run single to put the Bucs on top, 8-6. Whitehead added two more runs to the cushion with a two-run double for a 10-6 lead.

Smith also belted a three-run homer to give Red Bank a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Ranney went up 6-3 with a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Andrew Parisi.

James Bradley, Jayson Bennett and Jake Clayton had run-scoring hits in consecutive innings and the Panthers bounced back from an early deficit to beat the Hawks.

Bradley doubled in the tying run in the bottom of the second inning and Bennett put Point Boro up, 2-1, with an RBI single. Clayton provided some insurance when the freshman ripped a two-run single for a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Manchester jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an RBI single by Pat McKay, but Chase Connelly bounced back to pitch into the fifth inning before Hudson Griffin secured the save with 2 2/3 hitless innings.

Sophomore Jackson Redmond drove in the first run of the game when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, then polished off six shutout innings on the mound to lead the Patriots to a season-opening win over the rival Colonials (0-3).

Redmond allowed two hits, two walks and struck out seven before passing the ball over to C.J. Svoboda for a one-two-three seventh inning for the save.

Mike Avino tripled and scored a run and Lex Nelson went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the fifth inning to help ignite the offense.

Noah Ochojski struck out nine in 4 1/3 innings for Freehold Boro, during which he allowed three earned runs on five hits .
