Sam Cali Invitational at FDU-Madison (Middletown South, St. John Vianney) - TOURNAMENT PAGE

Freshman phenom Anthony Knox captured the 113-pound title to lead St. John Vianney to a fifth-place finish in the team standings. Knox won by 18-3 technical fall in the quarterfinals, won 10-0 over St. Augustine's Kade Naame in the semifinals, and defeated St. Peter's Prep's Adrian Dejesus 12-5 in the championship bout. Knox is ranked No. 1 in the nation at 113 pounds and DeJesus is ranked No. 4

Freshman Jake Zaltsman placed second at 120 pounds, senior Nico Diaz placed second at 132 pounds, and freshman Patrick O'Keefe placed third at 106 pounds. Zaltsman made noise in the quarterfinals when he defeated Eastern's Jared Brunner, 6-2. Brunner was the top seed and placed sixth in the state at 113 pounds. last season.

Senior Robert Generelli placed second at 138 pounds to lead Middletown South to a ninth-place team finish.

 

Hunterdon Central Red Devil Invitational (Holmdel, Southern, Rumson-Fair Haven, Toms River East, Bound Brook, Buena, Delran, Gloucester City, Hackettstown, Hunterdon Central, Jefferson, Northern Burlington, Notre Dame, Old Bridge) - TOURNAMENT PAGE

Southern had five champions, one runner-up, and three third-place finishers to win the team title over host Hunterdon Centra. Junior Connor Collins won the 120-pound title, freshman Wyatt Stout secured the 126-pound title, sophomore Matt Henrich won at 138, junior Cole Velardi took first at 150, and junior Riley O'Boyle took home the 215-pound championship to lead the way.

Collins, last year's state runner-up at 113 pounds, won all three of hits bouts by fall. Stout continued his great start to his high school career by winning 16-2 over the top seed in the semifinals on his way to another tournament title. Henrich won all three of his bouts by bonus points, including a major decision in the final. Nick Bennet finished second at 144 while Nate Bischoff (157), Tyler Chase (165) and Collin French (175) each took third.

Senior Shay Addison won the 175-pound bracket and sophomore Hudson Skove took home the 190-pound title to lead Rumson-Fair Haven to a third-place team finish. Addison was the top seed and cruised to the championship with three first-period pins. Skove was also dominant with three major decisions, including a 15-6 win over Holmdel's Luke Dupont in the final. Cole Pangborn (132) and Ryan Boyer (165) placed second for the Bulldogs.

Holmdel had Dupont finish second at 190 and AJ Todisco place third at 150. Toms River East's Jaton Wellington finished second at 120 pounds and teammate James Lynch was third at 190.

Junior defending state champion Anthony Santaniello rolled to the 132-pound title with a pin and three technical falls and was named Outstanding Wrestler for the lowewerights. Senior Evan Tallmadge, also a defending state champion, cruised to the 120-pound championship to help lead the Mustangs to a third-place team finish. Ryan Smith was second at 150 pounds and Bradon Scott (138), Mason Pirnik (144), and Harvey Ludington (175) each placed third.

Middletown North sophomore Brady Klinsky won the 106-pound title and Colts Neck senior Matt Jannucci secured the 285-pound championship.

 

Rahway Holiday Tournament, at St. Joseph-Metuchen (Marlboro, Shore, AL Johnson, Hillside, Irvington, Lawrence, North Plainfield, Plainfield, St. Joe's, Woodbridge) - TOURNAMENT PAGE

 

Mike Malucelli and Christian Steensen won titles, Brandon Bayer and Erick Shternfeld finished as runners-up, and Alex Palagano and Andrew Litt placed third to lead Marlboro to a third-place finish in the team standings.

Malucelli won the 190-pound championship with three wins by fall while Steensen secured the 285-pound title with two falls and a 3-0 decision over St. Joseph (Metuchen)'s Jake Tulli in the final. Bayer reached the 120-pound final where he lost by fall to St. Joe's Nico Calello, who was third in the state at 106 pounds last season.

Gabe Scalise won the 132-pound title for Shore Regional while Antonio Scalise took third at 120 pounds.
