(17) Brick Memorial 3, (16) St. John Vianney 2

Senior Greg Hanlon broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh with a two-out, RBI single through the left side and the Mustangs held on to beat the Lancers and advance to a round-of-16 match-up with top-seeded Middletown South.

Hanlon's winning hit made a winner out of starter Nick Gillen and set the stage for senior Torrey Savoia to lock down his fourth save of the season with a perfect seventh inning.

St. John Vianney tied the game with two unearned runs in the sixth off Gillen, although sophomore catcher Jacob Ramirez did deliver a clutch, two-out, two-strike, game-tying RBI single to right field.

Senior Tristan Savoia gave Brick Memorial a 1-0 lead with a solo home run to left-center in the top of the second inning. Hanlon manufactured an insurance run in the top of the sixth when he led off with a double, took third on a wild pitch and scored when the throw from Ramirez skipped into the outfield.

Brick Memorial senior catcher Mike Murphy made his presence felt by throwing out four St. John Vianney base-runners - two caught-stealing attempts, one back-pick at first base, and one runner attempting to advance to third on a wild pitch.
