Quarterfinals

(3) Jackson Memorial 5, (6) Brick Memorial 4

Joe Naffaa connected on a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the sixth and the Jaguars rallied from a three-run deficit to beat the Mustangs and reach the semifinal round of the OCT.

Naffaa's homer was the last of three long balls by Jackson Memorial, the first of which was a solo shot by Jackson Osmond to cut Brick Memorial's lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third. The Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead on an opposite-field, two-run home run by Nick Garbooshian in the top of the first inning.

Brick Memorial stretched its lead back to 4-1 on a two-run RBI single by Tyler Garbooshian in the top of the fourth, but the Jaguars came back with an answer in the fifth. On the ninth pitch of his two-out at-bat with runners on the corners, Nick Izzo scorched a high fastball over the fence in leftfield for a game-tying three-run home run.

Danny Hutchinson came on for the save in the seventh inning and, after working himself into a second-and-third, one-out jam, closed down the game with a strikeout and a flyout to Naffaa in left.

(7) Point Beach 10, (2) Donovan Catholic 2

Dan Lubach capped another late-inning offensive flurry by the Point Beach with a three-run home run and the Garnet Gulls pulled away with a win over the Griffins to move into the OCT semifinals Monday at No. 3 Jackson Memorial.

After scoring 12 runs in the fifth and sixth innings of a 13-3 win over Class B Central division rival St. Rose on Wednesday, Point Beach again did the majority of its scoring from the fifth inning on. With the game tied, 2-2, in the top of the fifth, freshman Brody Powers roped a go-ahead RBI double to give the Gulls a 3-2 lead. Quinn Cali added a two-run single in the fifth and Point Beach tacked on another run to the lead thanks to an error committed on a hard ground ball struck by Lubach.

Point Beach put the game away in the top of the seventh. Nate Clayton drove in his team's seventh run with an RBI double and Lubach launched a three-run jack to make it 10-2.

Winning pitcher Tommy Conroy got the scoring started with an RBI single in the top of the second inning, followed by another RBI single by teammate Antonio Acevedo. Donovan Catholic clawed back with a sacrifice fly from Hunter Johnson in the bottom of the second and a game-tying solo homer by Joe Maier in the third.

Liam Dolan pitched 2 2/3 innings on 26 pitches to come within out out of the save, but Ryan Doyle recorded the final out to save Dolan's eligibility for Friday's road game at St. Rose.

Freehold Twp. 9, No. 13 Colts Neck 5

Aidan Galvanek and C.J. Svoboda each had three hits and two RBI to lead the Patriots past the Cougars for their first division win of the season while also snapping a seven-game losing streak.

Galvanek came through with two two-out RBI singles -- one in Freehold Township's five-run third inning that opened up a 7-0 lead and another in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-4 and swing the momentum back to the side of the Patriots.

Svoboda doubled home the game's first run and added an RBI single in the five-run rally in the third, during which Freehold Township scored all five runs with two out.

CLASS B NORTH

No. 3 Matawan 6, Manasquan 0

Brandon Falco drove in four runs to back a two-hit shutout effort by fellow senior Andrew Gendi as the Huskies blanked the Warriors for their 10th straight win to open the season and sixth shutout in their last seven games.

Falco drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the first and drew a bases-loaded walk to extend Matawan's lead to 2-0 in the top of the second. Falco then made it 5-0 with a two-run single in the top of the sixth.

Mike DiPietro plated a run with a bunt single in the fifth after Sal Cassano stole third base and Gendi added a sacrifice fly that capped the scoring in the sixth.

Gendi retired the first 11 batters of the game before surrendering a two-out triple to Dylan Vowteras in the fourth. Gendi also gave up a leadoff single to Connor Voelkson in the fifth, but he started a doubled play on an attempted bunt and finished off another scoreless inning with a strikeout.
