Beacon 70 Shore Conference Football Player of the Week: Manalapan’s Elijah Marquez
Every week this season, Shore Conference football fans will have their chance to vote for the Beacon 70/Shore Sports Network Football Player of the Week on our website.
The Week 6 Player of the Week is Manalapan senior running back Elijah Marquez, whose efforts on the ground helped the Braves churn out a 21-14 victory over Jackson Memorial to continue their strong season. Marquez and all Player of the Week winners this season will receive a $25 gift card to Beacon 70 Restaurant.
Marquez ran for 101 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries and it was his 1-yard touchdown that gave Manalapan a 14-7 lead in the third quarter as the Braves improved to 4-1 on the season. It was Marquez's first 100-yard game of the season.
The Braves are currently ranked No. 6 in The Jeep Store/Shore Sports Network Top 10 and will close out their regular season on Saturday with a road game against district rival Freehold (3-3).
Marquez won the Week 6 poll with 21 percent of all votes cast to win over Red Bank's Pierce Olsen with Keyport's Nazir Treadwell finishing third.
