Class A North

No. 12 Middletown South 4, No. 14 Howell 2

After pitching three no-hit innings of relief in a season-opening win over Middletown North on Monday, senior left-hander Brevin Bezick fired three more no-hit innings as the lead man in a combined two-hit shutout that led the Eagles over the Rebels.

Derek Commander officially nabbed the win with two innings of middle relief during which he allowed both Howell hits and Dan Daly closed out the win with two hitless innings.

Bezick has now thrown six innings without allowing a hit or a walk, with the only baserunners against him thus far reaching on a hit-by-pitch, four errors and a strikeout-wild-pitch. He has 11 strikeouts in the six innings.

Colts Neck 10, No. 5 Middletown North 6

Tom Diffley pitched five strong innings, returned to the mound during a four-run rally by Middletown North in the top of the sixth, then hit an RBI double in a four-run Colts Neck rally in the bottom of the inning to highlight a wild win for the Cougars over the Lions.

The first three Middletown North batters of the sixth inning reached against Tosh Mancini, who then recorded a pair of groundouts that each plated a run, but brought Colts Neck within an out of escaping trouble. Dylan Briggs then singled to pull the Lions within 6-5 and Zach Hampton moved him into scoring position with another two-out single.

At that point, Colts Neck coach Mike Yorke went back to Diffley, who promptly surrendered a game-tying RBI single to Alipio Figueroa before recording the third out of the inning.

Kyle McCarthy led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and scored on the second double of the game by Ronan Kiely, giving Colts Neck the lead again, 7-6. Diffley then traded placed with Kiely on another RBI double and the Cougars tacked on two more runs with two out in the inning -- one on an error and another on an RBI single by R.J. Conover.

The first two Middletown North batters reached against Diffley in the top of the seventh, but Diffley retired the next three to close out the win.

Marlboro 13, Freehold Twp. 1 (5 Innings)

Danny Trentacosta pitched a five-inning two-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks and the Mustangs (3-2, 3-0) overpowered the Patriots (0-2, 0-2). Anthony Martino smacked a three-run double, Mike Consolazio  went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI and Paul Santos (1-for-3) and Nick Diadema (1-for-2) each added a hit, run scored and an RBI for Marlboro.

No. 10 Rumson-Fair Haven 5, Monmouth 1 (5 Innings)

Aaron Del Tin pitched a five-inning complete game and Rumson plated six runs during the top of the sixth inning before the game was called due to poor field conditions and rain. Because the game was called during the top of the inning, the score reverted back to the last completed inning, which was the fifth.

Sophomore D.J. Ylagan cracked his first career home run and in the unofficial top of the sixth, Jack Riva hit a grand slam that would have made the score 11-1 and put Rumson in position to end the game via 10-run rule had it continued to the bottom of the inning. Ylagan's homer came off Monmouth junior Collin Denton, who struck out 17 in a season-opening win over Wall on Saturday.

No. 1 Red Bank Catholic 8, Raritan 2

Dylan Passo ripped a tie-breaking RBI double in the top of the fifth and added an RBI single in the following inning to help the Caseys pull away with a win over the Rockets, who entered Thursday having shutout its first two opponents of the season.

Charlie Stumberger followed Passo with an RBI single to make it 4-2 in the fifth and Matt Brunner knocked in a run with a single during the three-run sixth inning. Brunner also opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first and Sean Griggs gave the Caseys a 2-1 lead with an RBI double in the top of the third.

Luke Lonczak capped the scoring in the seventh with RBC's fourth RBI double of the game.

Jimmy Nichols responded for Raritan in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to tie the game, 1-1, and Raritan drew even again in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch.

Brandon Hendrickson pitched into the fifth inning to earn the win and freshman Hunter Beattie pitched 2 2/3 hitless innings to pick up his first career save.

John Molnar worked five innings for Raritan in his first start since 2022. Molnar missed his junior year due to injury after pitching 40 innings as a sophomore.

Freehold Boro 6, Neptune 3

Nick Russo broke a 3-3 deadlock with a two-out, two-run triple in the top of the eighth inning and Danny Opramolla closed out the eight-inning complete game just as he hit his pitch limit, giving the Colonials their first win of the season as well as the first for coach Mike Ingui.

Aamir Haniff tripled home a run to open the scoring in the top of the first and later capped it with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. Nick Lynch added an RBI single in the first and Josh Medina made it 3-0 in the fourth with an RBI double.

Neptune roared back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, led by RBI triples from both Nick Bailey and Jack Gamba-Ellis. After hitting a two-out RBI triple, Gamba-Ellis then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Manasquan 8, Red Bank 8

Will Marziarz smoked a two-out, bases-clearing double to the right-center gap to plate the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth before R.T. Runge answered with a game-tying solo home run in the top of the seventh as the Bucs and the Warriors played to a tie in a game that was called due to darkness after seven innings.

Manasquan took a 6-4 lead in the top of the third on a three-run double by Matt Antonucci and added to its lead on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth. Red Bank got a run back in the sixth on an RBI single by Ryan Robinson -- his third RBI of the game -- and later in the inning, Marziarz scalded a 1-1 pitch up the alley in right-center to plate all three base-runners and put the Bucs ahead, 8-7.

On the first pitch of the seventh inning, Runge jumped on a fastball and launched it over the leftfield fence to even the score at 8-8.

Red Bank entered the bottom of the seventh knowing the game would be over following the inning. Tim Kelly reached on an error with two out, bringing the red-hot Tommy Ruth (5-for-his-last-6 with four doubles entering the at-bat) to the plate. Manasquan junior Tristan Condon worked the outside corner and struck Ruth out looking to end the game.
