Beacon 70 Football Player of the Week: St. John Vianney’s Joey Abarno
Every week this season, Shore Conference football fans will have their chance to vote for the Beacon 70/Shore Sports Network Football Player of the Week on our website.
The Week 3 Player of the Week is St. John Vianney senior linebacker Joey Abarno, who led the Lancers' defense to a shutout victory in the team's first win of the season. Abarno and all Player of the Week winners this season will receive a $25 Beacon 70 gift card.
The Lancers entered Week 3 with an 0-2 record after one-score losses at the hands of Manalapan and Long Branch. They took out their frustration on Toms River East to the tune of a 43-0 blowout and Abarno led the way on defense with nine tackles, including three tackles for loss and one sack, plus two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
Abarno and St. John Vianney are back in action this Friday night with a Freedom Division game on the road at Toms River South (1-2).
It was a close race for the Week 3 Player of the Week award with Abarno earning 19.86 percent of the votes to beat out Toms River South's Gavin Migliori, Point Boro's Connor Cilento, and Pinelands' Ryan Allen.
