Each week during the 2022 high school baseball season, Shore Sports Network will recognize the top performers in each Shore Conference division and give fans a chance to pick the overall winner of the Shore Sports Network Baseball Player of the Week. The nominees include a Player of the Week from each of the six Shore Conference divisions, plus two wild cards who are worthy of consideration as well.

Check out this week's group of nominees and vote for the one you think stands out in the poll at the bottom of the post. Voting ends Thursday at 10 p.m., with the winner receiving a Player of the Week shirt courtesy of Ocean County Sports Medicine.

Class A Central Player of the Week

Jake Jacobson, Red Bank Catholic

After transferring from Mater Dei, Jacobson has hit his way into the RBC lineup and last week’s showing was confirmation. The senior outfielder went 3-for-6 with two doubles and four RBI in two wins over Holmdel, then crushed a grand slam in a Caseys rout of Manasquan, in which they beat Warriors sophomore ace Cullen Condon.

Cam Leiter, Central

Leiter did not pitch last week, but he more than made up for it by torching the ball at the plate. In two wins over Toms River East, the UCF commit went 5-for-7 with two doubles, two home runs and 9 RBI, which propelled him to a Shore-Conference-leading .567 batting average heading into the current week.

Wild Cards

Julien Umanzor, Marlboro

Umanzor leads the Shore Conference with nine doubles and he did most of his damage in that category last week, when he racked up six. In four games, Umanzor went 8-for-15 with nine RBI and would have had a seventh double on Saturday if his single that one-hopped the fence was not a game-winning, walk-off single to beat Raritan in the Monmouth County Tournament opening round.

Kyle Pollack, St. John Vianney

After starting the week by losing 1-0 to Freehold Boro despite its starting pitcher throwing a no-hitter, St. John Vianney woke its bats up for three straight wins. Pollock was a standout in the winning streak, going 6-for-7 with two doubles, a triple a home run and seven RBI during the three-game surge.
