Dan VanMeerbeke, Raritan

VanMeerbeke drove in two of the three Raritan runs in a 3-0 win over Red Bank on April 27 while going 2-for-4 with a double and the next day, he belted a home run in a win at Rumson-Fair Haven. The Raritan junior drew better than 40 percent of the more than 12,000 votes cast to beat out Central junior Tyler Aires, who finished in second with 25 percent. Monmouth's Paul Birzin earned more than 2,000 votes and Donovan Catholic's Bart Goble collected more than 1,700.

 

Pitcher of the Week

Colin Fernandez, Keyport

Fernandez was effective last week both as a starter and finishing the game for the Red Raiders. He pitched the first three innings of a no-hitter against Ranney and closed out a win over Point Beach with two scoreless innings. For the week, Fernandez allowed one hit in five shutout innings with five strikeouts and two walks. The junior won the contest with 41 percent of the nearly 7,000 votes cast to beat out runner-up Mike Wynne of Howell, who collected 29 percent. Raritan's Zach Johnston was the only other candidate to draw more than 1,000 votes and he finished with better than 18 percent of the vote.
