Toms River East 12, Central 1 (5 Innings)

Junior Ryan Goodall went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and five RBI and sophomore Aidan Meola hit a solo home run as part of a 3-for-4 effort at the plate to pace the Raiders to a one-sided win over the Golden Eagles.

Winning pitcher Matt Santos went 1-for-2 with a double and three RBI to help his cause. The junior right-hander allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out four on 75 pitches.

Junior Ryan Cicardo was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, junior Robert Pero was 2-for-3 with an RBI and senior Mark Murtha was 1-for-2 with two runs scored for Toms River East.

Sophomore Trevor Coltenback went 2-for-2 with both Central hits and Mike Masino took the loss while going 3 2/3 innings.

Brick Memorial 6, Southern 2

Sophomore Max Cala went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI out of the leadoff spot to back winning pitcher Nick Gillen as the Mustangs topped the Rams to open their season with a win.

Senior T.J. Rosace went 1-for-4 with two RBI, including an RBI double to open the scoring in Brick Memorial's two-run first inning.

Senior Tristan Savoia went 1-for-3 with a dobule and a run scored and junior Colin Turner was 1-for-3 with two runs scored for Brick Memorial.

Gillen allowed one run on four hits and four walks with four strikeouts over five innings and 86 pitches to win his first start of the season. Senior Torrey Savoia closed it out with two innings, during which he allowed one unearned run on two hits and two walks while striking out five.

Senior Cole Markley and sophomore Mike Gallaro each went 2-for-3 with a double, with Gallaro driving in one of Southern's two runs.

Senior Mike Schiatarella took the loss on the mound with 2 2/3 innings and 76 pitches of work.

No. 1 Jackson Memorial 8, No. 8 Toms River South 1

Junior Ryan Lasko homered, doubled, drove in two and started a critical double-play in the fourth inning to help sophomore Matt Potok get out of a jam en route to a complete-game win on opening night at Ken Frank Stadium.

After belting a solo home run in the top of the fourth, Lasko made a running catch in shallow center field with the bases loaded for the second out and flipped to second to double off the runner and end the Toms River South threat, keeping the score 5-1.

In his first game at Jackson Memorial, senior shortstop and Toms River East transfer Ahmir Cournier went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Henry Hudson 10, Asbury Park 0 (5 Innings)

Senior Liam Hagan doubled, drove in two runs and stole two bases to lead the offense and senior Matt Payne struck out eight in four one-hit innings to highlight a 10-run win by the Admirals over the Blue Bishops.

Sophomore Trevor Hendrickson was 1-for-2 with two RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases.

Point Beach 12, Keansburg 5

Junior Will Baranello went 3-for-5 with a double and five RBI in his Point Beach debut and the Garnet Gulls slugged their way past the Titans to open the season.

Freshman Andrew Banick went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI out of the No. 9 spot in the order and sophomore Alec Glen was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Sophomore starting pitcher Matt VanBrunt was 1-for-4 with three RBI at the plate and lasted four innings and 90 pitches to earn the win. The right-hander allowed five unearned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four. Sophomore Phil Trebour finished off the win with three scoreless, one-hit frames to earn the save.

Senior Liam Meyer went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and classmate Liam Riecks was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Losing pitcher Rian Rivera helped his cause with a pair of RBI in a 1-for-3 game at the plate.

Mater Dei Prep 7, Keyport 4

Senior Brandon Sansone and freshman Ashton Mejias combined on a two-hitter to help the Seraphs overcome three costly errors and beat the Red Raiders on opening day.

Sansone dominated over five one-hit innings, striking out 10 while walking three before turning the ball over to Mejias for his first varsity appearance on the mound.

No. 7 Point Boro 7, Barnegat 2

Senior Paul Franceschini went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and junior Nick Guzzi pitched 5 2/3 dominant frames to lead the Panthers to a win over the Bengals.

Guzzi struck out 10 and walked one while allowing four hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings and 84 pitches to earn the win.

Senior Sam Collins tripled and scored a run, senior Jonathan Alfonso and junior Connor Kennedy each went 1-for-3 with two RBI and junior Nick Zbikowski finished 1-for-2 with three runs and an RBI in the win.

Senior David MacGillvray was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and junior Dexter Dambroski also knocked in a run with a double in the seventh inning. Junior Lukas Torres was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Barnegat.

Senior Tyler Suydam took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out seven in four innings and 70 pitches.

No. 4 Jackson Liberty 22, Donovan Catholic 0 (5 Innings)

The Lions pounded 23 hits and launched three home runs on the way to an opening-day rout of the Griffins. Each Jackson Liberty starter had at least one hit and all nine reached base safely at least twice.

Senior Kevin Ritz and juniors Shane Hickey and Brandon Kinsman each homered and senior Connor Keenan went 4-for-5 with three RBI. Ritz finished 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI and senior Scott Wierciszewski also doubled and drove in four during a 2-for-5 day at the plate.

Sophomore Dan Keenan and senior Alex Torres each went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, with Keenan also doubling and driving in three. Kinsman went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to go with his homer.

Junior Tim Duffy tossed four scoreless innings to earn the win, allowing three hits and two walks while fanning nine. Senior right-hander Nick DeCarlo pitched a scoreless fifth.

Sophomore Sam Gates went 2-for-3 to lead Donovan Catholic.

Pinelands 4, Lacey 1

Monmouth University commit and senior right-hander Joey Ventresca struck out a career-high 16 in a one-hitter and also drove in a pair of runs to lead the Wildcats over the Lions.

Lacey senior Miles Feaster broke up the no-hitter and the shutout with a solo home run in the fourth inning.
