Toms River North is the Week 10 Jersey Mike’s Football Team of the Week
Every week this fall, Jersey Mike’s and Shore Sports Network have teamed up to select a Team of the Week based on its performance over the past weekend.
The Jersey Mike’s Team of the Week for Week 10 and our final Team of the Week recipient of the 2021 season is Toms River North, which defeated East Brunswick, 28-14, in the first round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 5 playoffs. Shore Sports Network was at practice on Tuesday to present the Mariners and head coach Dave Oizerowitz with a special game ball and a $250 Jersey Mike's gift card.
Sophomore quarterback Micah Ford ran for 200 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 138 yards and a touchdown to lead the way for the Mariners. Sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Pruitt had a touchdown catch and also ran for a touchdown.
Ford had a 14-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give Toms River North a 7-0 lead. At the end of the first half, Ford and Pruitt combined on a game-changing play that gave the Mariners a two-score lead at halftime. On the final play of the half, Ford launched a Hail Mary pass to the end zone that bounced off several hands before Pruitt secured the 39-yard touchdown catch for a 14-0 lead.
After a scoreless third quarter, Ford scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with 9:38 on the clock to give Toms River North a 21-0 lead. East Brunswick closed the gap to 21-7 midway through the fourth quarter but Pruitt added a 4-yard touchdown run to give the Mariners a three-touchdown lead.
Toms River North, which is the No. 3 seed in the bracket, has another home game this Friday night against seventh-seeded Edison, which stunned second-seeded Manalapan, 23-20 in overtime, in the first round. If the Mariners can defeat the Eagles they will advance to the South Jersey Group 5 sectional championships game, which would be the program's eighth finals appearance. Toms River North is tied for fourth all-time in Shore Conference history with six NJSIAA sectional titles, the last of which came in 2015.
