Pinelands 45, Jackson Liberty 43

The Wildcats pulled out a two-point victory, but the Lions left Pinelands upbeat thanks to the return to the court of senior point guard Dylan Teopaco.

Teopaco suffered a serious head injury in a game at Keyport on Jan. 12 and had not played since. He was hospitalized for two days and it was doubtful he would play again this season, but he suited up Tuesday night for a road game at Pinelands. Teopaco checked in with three minutes left in the second quarter and immediately set up classmate Charlie Callahan for a three-pointer.

Later in the second, Teopaco hit a driving layup for his first points. Jackson Liberty head coach Don Connor said he celebrated as though it was a postseason buzzer-beater, leaping up and pumping his fist.

"I don't think I ever jumped so high," Connor said.

Teopaco then played four minutes of the third quarter and asked back in for the fourth, Connor said. He played the entirety of the final quarter.

Sophomore Josh Barongo led Pinelands with 13 points and senior Aiden Falduto added 11 points and seven assists in the winning cause.

Senior Lukas Latvys scored a game-high 20 points to lead Jackson Liberty.

Jackson Liberty has two games remaining on its schedule, with a home game against Lacey on Wednesday next up.

Junior Mason Krey scored 17 points and senior teammate Jamari Smith added 12 as the Bengals rode 10 different scorers to a win over the Warriors.
