Atlantic Physical Therapy Center NJSIAA Semifinals Football Picks
The Shore Sports Network football staff of Kevin Williams, Matt Harmon, Ed Sarluca, and Bob Badders are back with their 2017 weekly picks in Shore Conference football action.
We will also have a guest picker each week. This week's guest picker is former Long Branch and Brick Memorial head coach Fred Sprengel, who led the Mustangs to their first NJSIAA sectional title.
Sprengel started his head-coaching career at Long Branch in 1995 and went 19-20 in four years with the Green Wave. He was hired as the head coach at Brick Memorial ahead of the 2000 season and set the foundation for success during his seven seasons with the Mustangs. Sprengel went 43-32 at Brick Memorial, won a pair of Constitution Division titles and led Brick Memorial to the 2003 Central Jersey Group IV championship, its first in program history. Brick Memorial also reached the sectional final and won a school-record 10 games in 2005.
Sprengel has also been an assistant coach at Wall, Raritan, Long Branch, Brick, Ithaca (NY) and Monmouth University. He is the director of QB Fundamental Academy.
A graduate of Wall High School, Sprengel earned his bachelor's degree from Ithaca College and his master's degree from Kean University. He is currently a teacher in the Brick Township School District and lives in Wall with his wife Michelle, son Fred and daughter Morgan.
