Every week this season, Shore Sports Network will be recognizing the top Shore Conference boys lacrosse players of the week and putting all the nominees up for a vote to determine who the fans believe should bring home the Player of the Week award.

The Week 3 SSN Boys Lacrosse Player of the Week is Jackson Liberty sophomore attackman Paul Capozzi, whose superb season continued when he delivered 14 points across a three-game span.

Jackson Liberty is a young team starting four sophomores, three of whom also started last season as freshmen. Those young players have been the ones to set the tone for Liberty, however, with Capozzi leading the way as the leader in goals and points by a significant margin. In three games during Week 3, Capozzi sank eight goals and added six assists as Liberty scored a 7-6 win over Ocean before dropping a 9-3 game to Point Boro and then a 14-9 loss to Jackson Memorial. He had two goals and two assists in both the Ocean and Point Boro games and put forth his best game vs. Jackson Memorial with four goals and two assists.

Through 13 games, Capozzi now leads Liberty in all scoring categories with 32 goals and 16 assists for 48 points. He has already eclipsed his offensive numbers from last season when he totaled 20 goals and 14 assists for 34 points. He has 10 multi-point games thus far, including a season-best six goals and one assist in a one-goal win over Freehold Township.

With a 3-10 record the Lions will most out of the Shore Conference Tournament and are on the outside looking in when it comes to the South Group 2 state tournament. But there have also been flashes of promise this season for a team that will return almost all of its starters next season, led by Capozzi.

It was a razor-thin margin of victory for Capozzi in the Week 3 Player of the Week poll with just over a percentage point separating him from Brick Memorial senior Dan Aulisi. Middletown South's Steve Kirchner was third.
