Jackson Liberty 8, Toms River North 3

Senior attackman Paul Capozzi fired in five goals, assisted on three more, and went 7-for-12 at the face-off X while senior goalie Matthew LaBianca made 15 saves to lead the Lions (1-0, 1-0) to a win over the Mariners (0-1, 0-1) in the season opener for both teams.

Sophomore Jeff White added three goals and one assist and senior Joe Accordino picked up a team-high five ground balls.

 

Brick Memorial 6, Brick 5

Sophomore attackman Nick Correia registered a hat trick, junior goalie Matt Hillin made 15 saves, and sophomore midfielder Justin Karlbon delivered the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter as the Mustangs (1-1, 1-0) edged the Dragons (0-1, 0-1).

Sophomore attackman Jack Deufemia had a goal and an assist, junior attackman Austin Edwards scored once, sophomore midfielder Shane Trautweiler dished out three assists, and junior Frank Taylor went 9-for-13 at the face-off X. Junior attackman Matt Malanga picked up a team-leading six ground balls.

Brick Memorial led 4-2 at halftime.

 

Nondivisional

Holmdel 15, Middletown South 6

Senior midfielder Will Giflillan scored his 100th career goal and assisted on five other Holmdel goals and sophomore attackman Finn Buchan scored a game-high six goals to power the Hornets (2-0) to a victory over the Eagles (0-1).

Gilfillan will enter Holmdel's next game with 199 career points.

Senior midfielder Gary Collyer also had a big game with four goals and one assist while junior attackman Brian Volpe had two goals and one assist and sophomore midfielder Jack Cannon had a goal and an assist. Junior FOGO Jack Powers won 19 of 21 at the X and also scored a goal. Senior goalie Casey Dowd made five saves.

Logan Ballin had three goals and one assist and Sean Burns made nine saves for Middletown South. Jake Sawyer added a goal and two assists and Owen Richter and Will Nugent had one goal each.

 

Southern 16, Jackson Memorial 3

Junior Liam Griffin scored a career-high six goals and added one assist, senior attackman Konnor Forlai delivered two goals and three assists, and junior FOGO Collin Markoski won 18 of 20 face-offs to steer the Rams (1-1) to a convincing win over the rival Jaguars (1-1).

Junior Joe Kessler and freshman Kyle Sininsky each tallied two goals and two assists, Freshman Shea O'Donnell had two goals and one assist, senior midfielder Anthony Arch had a goal and two assists, and freshman Cash McVey scored once. Junior goalie AJ Mattern made six saves to earn the win before giving way to freshman Nick Hughes, who finished with seven saves.

Senior midfielder Elias Craig scored twice, senior attackman Drew Barocas scored once, and senior goalie Russell Cender made 14 saves for Jackson.

 

Red Bank Catholic 21, St. John Vianney 6

Senior attackman Peter Villare totaled five goals and two assists, senior attackman Jackson Lu and freshman midfielder Joe Egan each had four goals and two assists, and sophomore midfielder Frank Tackett scored four goals to lead the offensive onslaught that propelled the Caseys (2-0) to a win over the Lancers (0-1).

Freshman Thomas Muniz had two goals and one assist and senior Brian Vecchio had a goal and an assist, 12 ground balls, and went 17-for-26 at the face-off X. Senior defenseman Logan Grahan added a goal and five ground balls and senior goalie Gianvito Viola made nine saves.

 

Toms River East 15, Ocean 1

Sophomore attackman Nicholas Caruso sank a career-high six goals and junior midfielder Nate Cummings scored a career-high five goals plus one assist to lead the Raiders (1-0) to a season-opening victory over the Spartans (2-1).

Freshman attackman Gerard Uzzolino had a goal and four assists, junior midfielder Ethan Kelly had two goals and one assist for his first varsity points, and senior attackman Patrick Hinkson had a goal and two assists. Freshman goalie Ryan Caruso picked up the win in his high school debut.

Senior Ben Girard scored the lone goal for Ocean.

 

Point Boro 15, Toms River South 1

Senior midfielder Gavin Reid erupted for a career-high six goals and senior midfielder Matt Woit posted a career-best five points on two goals and three assists as the Panthers (1-0) rolled to a road victory over the Indians (0-1) to open their season.

Junior attackman Brady Kirk tallied three goals and one assist and senior midfielder Robert Trapanese had two goals and two assists. Seniors Greyson Ritter and Logan Letts added one goal apiece, senior poles Owen Dewysockie and Dennis Glynn each had a team-leading five ground balls, and senior goalie Colin Cole made four saves.

 

Barnegat 16, Lacey 12

Jakob Jason scored four goals and picked up 11 ground balls and Antonio Frusco won 24 of 31 face-offs and collected 17 ground balls as the Bengals (1-0) won a barnburner over the Lions (1-1) to open their season with a victory.

Connor Maloney and Keagan Dunn each registered three goals and two assists while Bailey Carroll had three goals and one assist. Codey Shaffery scored twice and Jason McHale had a goal and three assists.

Ryan Gleason scored four goals and Corey Smith had three goals and three assists to lead Lacey. Braedyn Gialanella tallied three goals and two assists, Connor Simonson scored once, and Nicholas Vetter made 10 saves. Jonathan Price dished out three assists, Luke Miller had two assists, and Derek Hurley picked up a team-high 10 ground balls.

Rumson-Fair Haven 11, Marin Catholic (Calif.) 6

Senior midfielder Andy Croddick scored four goals and added one assist and senior midfielder Leo Passalaqua had a goal and three assists to lead the Bulldogs (2-0) to a victory over the Wildcats (10-5).

Marin Catholic is rated No. 6 in California by LaxNumbers.

Sophomore attackman Luke Lydon had two goals and one assist, sophomore Joseph Whitehouse scored twice, and junior goalie Mickey Walker made 11 saves. Junior Britt Lumsden added a goal and an assist and senior LSM Brody Page scored once.

 

CBA 9, Port Washington (NY) 3

Senior attackman Ryan Martin recorded a hat trick and junior midfielder Davis Campbell registered two goals and three assists as the Colts (2-0) put the clamps on the Vikings (0-2) for their second victory of the season.

CBA held Port Washington to just six shots on goal and led 8-0 at halftime.

Junior LSM Quinn Kelly and senior midfielder Jack Santos had a goal and an assist each and junior attackman Carter McGuire and senior midfielder Cameron D'Alterio each scored once. Senior goalie Brandon DeSena made three saves.

 

Shore 10, Holy Spirit 7

Senior attackman Brady Cooke tallied three goals and two assists, junior midfielder Tucker Malfa registered three goals and one assist, and junior FOGO Brendan O'Brien won 14 of 20 face-offs and picked up 13 ground balls as the Blue Devils (1-1) rallied from a 6-0 halftime deficit to stun the Spartans (1-1).

Shore scored seven straight goals in the third quarter to take a 7-6 lead and outscored Holy Spirit 3-1 in the fourth quarter. Senior goalie Noah Karaban made eight saves while sophomore Reid Spallone scored twice, junior Lukas Villa and senior Lucas White each scored once, and senior Carson Spallone had two assists.
