Surf Taco Football Player of the Week: Howell’s Stephen Jardim
Every week this season, Shore Conference football fans had their chance to vote for the Surf Taco/Shore Sports Network Football Player of the Week on our website.
The Week 8 Player of the Week is Howell junior quarterback Steven Jardim, who had a perfect passing day and added a rushing touchdown in the Rebels’ emphatic 49-0 victory over Immaculata in their final game of the season. Jardim will receive a $25 Surf Taco gift card.
Jardim completed all six of his passing attempts for 166 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a touchdown as Howell ended the season on a high note in the first year under head coach Frank Edgerly. Jardim had a 15-yard touchdown run to give Howell a 20-0 lead in the second quarter and then threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Nick Vecchiarelli to give the Rebels a 35-0 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Jardim connected with Hunter Lino for a 30-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 42-0.
Jardim didn’t play many snaps at quarterback in 2020 but his efficiency at the position puts him in a great spot to be the starter next season as a senior. Jardim completed 74 percent of his passes this season for 389 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Howell finished the season with a 2-4 record.
Jardim won a fairly close poll with 16.81 percent of the votes.
The Week 8 poll was the final Player of the Week poll for the 2020 season. We thank Surf Taco for sponsoring and supporting Shore Conference football and extend our congratulations to all eight winners and the countless others nominated each week.
