Every week this season, Shore Conference football fans will have their chance to vote for the Surf Taco/Shore Sports Network Football Player of the Week on our website.

The Week 2 Player of the Week is Raritan junior linebacker Alex Dekis, who led the charge for a Rockets' defense that did not allow an offensive point en route to a 21-14 victory over St. John Vianney. Dekis will receive a $25 Surf Taco gift card.

Dekis recorded 10 tackles with two tackles for loss as Raritan stymied St. John Vianney's offense. The Lancers' two touchdowns came on a kickoff return for a touchdown and a fumble return for a touchdown. In Week 1, St. John Vianney put up 30 points in a win over Raritan. The victory was Raritan's first over St. John Vianney, which is located one town over from Hazlet in Holmdel, since 2013.

"Alex has worked extremely hard to improve his physicality and overall athletic ability moving into his junior year," said Raritan head coach Anthony Petruzzi. "It has been evident that Alex loves football since entering our program and his work and determination to improve his game speaks volumes. He is a throwback who not only aims for success on the field but is a standout in the classroom and the community. We are glad and proud that he is a Rocket!"

The midway point of the regular season is this weekend and Raritan will try to pick up win No. 2 when it welcomes Ocean (0-1) to The Launch Pad.

Dekis won the Player of the Week poll in a landslide with over a quarter of all votes cast. Monmouth Regional running back Keontae Wiggins was second for his career day in a win over Keyport and Toms River South quarterback Jack Huber came in third.
