Central Division

Toms River North 7, Freehold Township 3

Senior center Cole Schneider had a dominant season-opener with five goals and one assist, including two short-handed goals, to lead the Mariners (1-0, 1-0) past the Patriots (1-2, 0-2).

Anthony DeFalco added a goal and two assists, Joe Frattaroli had a goal and an assist and Ty Schneider, Justin Ervelli and Jake Bennert each had two assists. Freshman Louis Mancuso made 22 saves to earn the win.

Freshman Lucas Palm, senior Dylan Jacobi and sophomore Michael Craft had goals for Freehold Township while junior Payton Fobes had two assists. Senior goalie Karina Vang had a strong game in goal with 27 saves.

 

Nondivisional

Middletown North 6, Manalapan 2

Sophomore Jimmy Mullarney scored the tying goal in the second period before senior Bob Fitzgerald netted the go-ahead goal as Lions (1-0) scored four times in the third period to open their season with a victory over the Braves (1-2).

Manalapan senior Dylan Stein scored a power-play goal late in the first period off assists from senior Nicholas Weissman and freshman James Stevens to tied the score at one after Middletown North had opened the scoring with a short-handed goal. The Braves pulled ahead, 2-1, when junior Thomas Pearsall found the back of the net off assists from senior Ryan Bechutsky and Stevens.

Mullarney's goal tied the score at two with 3:30 left in the second period and Fitzgerald gave Middletown North the lead for good early in the third period. Mullarney's second goal made it 4-2 and Charles Timmes and Andrew Gross added goals in the third for the four-goal victory.

 

Middletown South 6, Southern 1

Aiden Cavendish tallied a goal and two assists and Mike Volpi and Nate Block had a goal and an assist each as the Eagles (1-0) pulled away from the Rams (0-2) to open their season with a victory.

Tom Villano and Antonio Crispino each scored their first varsity goals and Luke Finn also scored once.

Brooks Hradek scored the lone goal for Southern off an assist from Christopher Laureigh.

Nonconference

St. John Vianney 8, Old Bridge 0

Junior forward Rob Calice and junior defenseman Alec Osher each scored twice and junior goalie Dan Shallcross posted a shutout as the Lancers opened their season with an emphatic victory over the Knights.

Senior forward SJ LeComte, junior forward Luc Barnett, freshman forward Vlad Savtyrev and junior forward Giuliano Fazio each scored once.
