North Division

No. 4 Rumson-Fair Haven 5, No. 3 Middletown South 3

Junior forward Brett Pritchard scored twice, including a short-handed goal in the first period and senior defenseman Andrew Schmid had a goal and an assist to lead the Bulldogs (2-0-2) past the Eagles (3-2-1) for their second win over a state top-20 team this week.

Senior forward Michael Kuras and junior forward James Danielczyk and senior goalie Ronan Hickey made 21 saves.

Senior forward Michael Volpi and junior forward Michael Ferlanti each scored power-play goals for Middletown South while junior defenseman Andreas Forand had a goal and an assist.

 

Nondivisional

Toms River North 4, Toms River East 3

Senior defenseman Justin Ervelli and sophomore DJ Freed scored goals in the final 49 seconds of the game to erase a one-goal deficit and lift the Mariners (4-0) to a thrilling victory over the rival Raiders (4-3).

Freed and Ervelli each scored twice and it was their first-period goals that staked Toms River North to a 2-0 lead after the first period. Freed scored at 2:24 of the opening frame and Ervelli added a power-play goal at 11:37.

Toms River East rebounded in the second period and then took the lead early in the third. Ryan Fortunato scored unassisted at 3:41 of the second and Jarrod Dye netted the tying goal with 1:41 left in the second period. Then, 2:42 into the third period, Dominick Markland scored a short-handed goal off an assist from Ethan Smith to give East a 3-2 advantage.

Ervelli tied the score at three with 49 seconds left and Freed supplied the game-winning goal off assists from Cole Schneider and Joseph Frattaroli with just 20 seconds on the clock.

Schneider led all players in points with four assists while Anthony DeFalco had two assists and Louis Mancuso made 16 saves.

Dominick McKeon made 20 saves for Toms River East.

 

Nonconference

Ocean 5, Edison 2

Pat Olenski's goal early in the second period gave the Spartans (1-0-1) the lead for good and they tacked on a pair of goals in the third period to skate past the Eagles (0-8) for their first win of the season.

After Edison took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jake DeVito, Vlad Gorelov scored a power-play goal with assists by Aiden Mumm and Olenski to tie the score at 8:09 of the first period. Mumm scored to give Ocean a 2-1 lead but Edison tied it up, 2-2, with 1:43 left in the first period.

Olenski's goal was the only tally of the second period. Alex Har extended the Spartans' lead to 4-2 with an unassisted goal at 8:41 of the third period and Olenski netted his second with a power-play goal at 11:12 to further pad Ocean's advantage.

Olenski finished with two goals and one assist while Mumm and Haar had a goal and two assists each. Tony Macaluso got the win in goal by making 13 saves.

 

St. Joseph (Metuchen) 5, St. Rose 3

Tyler Hughes scored a short-handed goal, Aidan Grant scored a power-play goal and Ben Meyer added a goal at even strength, but the Catholic tri-op was out-scored 3-1 in the final period and fell to the Falcons.

John Inderwies made 32 saves in the loss. Catholic falls to 1-3 on the season.
