Rising Red Bank Catholic senior Eddie Hahn, one of the top all-around returning football players in the state, verbally committed to the University of Connecticut on Wednesday.

Hahn, who also is one of the top players on the basketball team, shined as a quarterback and in the secondary in helping to lead the Caseys to the NJSIAA Non-Public Group III title in the fall for their first state title since 1976. He was a first-team All-Shore selection by Shore Sports Network, as the Caseys also won their fifth straight division title in addition to posting a school-record 11 wins.

He also boasted FBS offers from Buffalo and North Carolina State as well as multiple FCS offers.

Hahn was recruited as a general athlete by the Huskies and not specifically as a quarterback or defensive back, according to Caseys coach Jim Portela. That means the Huskies' staff will evaluate which position suits his versatile talents best.

In his first full season as the starting quarterback after rotating as a sophomore, he was 81-for-127 (64 percent accuracy) for 1,485 yards passing, averaging 18.3 yards per completion and throwing 20 touchdown passes despite rarely playing in the fourth quarter for much of the season because of blowout wins. He also ran for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns on an average of 7.5 yards per carry.

Also a talented safety, he had 32 tackles, two interceptions and 12 passes defensed. Hahn was also RBC’s punter, averaging 34.1 yards per punt on 21 attempts with a long of 55 yards. He saved his best for last, going 9-for-10 for 234 yards and a touchdown passing and also running for 47 yards and a score in a 45-20 win over Delbarton in the Non-Public Group III championship game.

Hahn joins one of his offensive linemen, Liam Smith (Duke), as well as St. John Vianney quarterback Anthony Brown (Boston College) and Red Bank Regional wide receiver Sadiq Palmer (Syracuse) among Shore talents from the Class of 2016 who are verbally committed to FBS programs.

He will join a Huskies team that currently features redshirt junior fullback Jazzmar Clax (Neptune) and will welcome Shore Regional linebacker/long-snapper James Bedell as an incoming freshman this fall.
