Two non-public Group 3 schools met in our Jersey Mike’s Game of the Week with a lot on the line as Red Bank Catholic traveled down to Toms River to take on an upstart Donovan Catholic squad. The Caseys came into the game with an even 3-3 record and were looking to bounce back after a tough 20-14 loss to Manalapan last week. The Griffins, meanwhile, entered Week 7 as one of the last remaining undefeated Shore Conference teams (Wall, Toms River East, and Ocean were the only others), and were aiming for a big statement win against a perennial New Jersey powerhouse. The first half of the contest proved to be a defensive battle with Donovan Catholic taking a 10-7 advantage into the break thanks to a late 42-yard field goal by senior Keaon Torres. The Caseys would come out firing in the second half, however, as the visitors found the endzone twice in the third quarter and early in the fourth to take a commanding 27-10 lead. The Griffins would put another touchdown on the board late in the fourth but time wasn’t on their side as they eventually suffered their first loss of the season, 27-16. Donovan Catholic (7-1) will end the regular season in Lakewood this Saturday against a winless Piners team while the Caseys (4-3) come back home after a three-game road trip with a game against Freehold Township.

Special congratulations to our Ocean Trophies Player of the Game, Red Bank Catholic senior TE and DE Kevin Bauman. The Notre Dame-bound star had a quiet first half but was instrumental in the second on both sides of the ball for the Caseys.
