Girls Basketball Player of the Week: Macy Brackett, Neptune

Previous winners

One of the biggest keys to a promising campaign for Neptune hinged on creating offensive balance. Sophomore guard Amaya Evans and Ahjanae Young offered mercurial speed, an occasional perimeter strike and an affinity for pushing the tempo in transition.

Macy Brackett has handled the interior and done so quite efficiently, thank you very much. The 5-8 senior forward is active and economical with her actions, be it filling the lane on the break, filling the bucket in the paint or filling up the stat sheet with her work on the glass.

Over her last six games, Brackett has been nothing short of dominant, her interior play reaping benefits and not going unnoticed, proven by the fans voting her the Shore Sports Network Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Week 5 and earning her a $25 gift card to Surf Taco.

Neptune debuted in the Shore Sports Network Top 10 last week at No. 10 and Brackett held the door open for its entracne. She accounted for 17 points when the Scarlet Fliers outlasted Colts Neck, 38-34, to avenge a 59-44 loss at the WOBM Christmas Classic...and was just getting started. Brackett collected 26 points, 10 rebounds and four steals in a victory over Matawan and followed up with a career-high 31 points, 15 boards and five assists on Saturday, powering Neptune past Trenton.

Brackett recorded three double-doubles in four games, establishing a new career-best on Thursday when she clicked for 32 points and 13 rebounds in a 61-55 win over Middletown North that ran the Scarlet Fliers' win streak to six.

That run was snapped on Friday in a 42-34 loss to Long Branch, a game Brackett missed while on a college visit, where she committed to Grayson College, a Division 1 JUCO in Texas.
