Girls Basketball Player of the Week: Ariana Broughton, Jackson Liberty
Previous winners
Week 1: Brooke Hollawell, Manasquan
Week 2: Kristina Donza, Jackson Memorial
The 5-5 freshman sparkplug has energized Jackson Liberty, particularly during a recent stretch of seven straight wins.
Broughton has a bit of a pioneer's mentality, blazing trails to the rim and finishing when she gets there, clicking for 9.3 points per game. But, her work around the glass doesn't stop there. She is a competitor on the boards, winning more battles than she loses when going up to retrieve a carom.
These were points of emphasis that carried Broughton in the vote and earned her the Shore Sports Network Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Week 3, as well as a $25 gift certificate to Surf Taco.
Broughton was an influential force for the Lions (7-5) on January 6, accounting for 12 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and a pair of steels to aid a 50-48 victory over Barnegat. Two nights later, she was at it again, tagging Ocean Township for 15 points and 14 boards in a 48-29 triumph.
