Every week this season, Shore Conference lacrosse fans will have their chance to vote for the Shore Sports Network Boys Lacrosse Player of the Week on our website.

The Week 1 (March 27-April 6) winner is Holmdel senior goalie Nick Tuccillo, who stood tall in goal by averaging 14 saves per game and also broke a school record to help the Hornets to a 4-2 start. Tuccillo and all Player of the Week winners this season will receive a $25 Surf Taco gift card.

Tuccillo began the season with 13 saves in a loss to Shore Regional, the No. 4 team in the Shore Sports Network Top 10, but three days later made 19 saves to help the Hornets to a 13-12 overtime win over Red Bank Catholic.  He then needed to make just three saves as Holmdel cruised to a 16-3 win over Hamilton West.

In the fourth game of the season, Holmdel nearly took down then-No. 10 St. John Vianney before falling in overtime, 9-8. Tuccillo had a career day, however, and set a program single-game record with a whopping 27 saves.

Holmdel got back into the win column two days later and Tuccillo made 14 saves in a 5-4 victory over Toms River North. Another one-goal game would follow and Tuccillo stopped nine shots in a 9-8 overtime win against Middletown North. In six games during the voting period, Tuccillo made 85 saves.

Tuccillo made 162 saves with a .602 save percentage last season and is on pace to surpass that mark this year. He’ll see plenty of shots on Saturday when the Hornets take on No. 1 Manasquan. Holmdel will then host Red Bank on Tuesday.

Tuccillo won the Player of the Week vote with 28.71 percent of the votes, doubling the total of Wall’s Logan Peters. St. John Vianney’s Anthony Brett was third.
