Pinelands has battled its way to a winning record heading into the final days of January with a balanced, all-senior starting lineup. Each of the five have had their standout stretches and last week was McCarthy's week to shine.
McCarthy led Pinelands in scoring in both of the teams wins last week, which came over Lakewood and Point Beach. McCarthy put up 23 points and seven rebounds against Lakewood, then scored 16 to help lead the way against Point Beach.
This week's Player of the Week contest was a runaway, with McCarthy seizing 40 percent of the vote -- 24 percent more than runner-up Nick Seeloch of Holmdel. As the fifth Player of the Week in 2021-22, McCarthy will receive a $25 gift card to the Turning Point and a long-sleeve t-shirt courtesy of Seaview Orthopaedics.
