Class A Central

Holmdel 7, Raritan 6

Senior Joe Sadler hit a two-run home run in the first inning to break the school's all-time career home run mark and the Hornets edged the Rockets in the Class A Central finale for both teams.

 

Class B South

Lakewood 10, Central 0 (5 Innings)

Alex Catalan pitched a two-hit shutout and the Piners hammered 12 hits in a win over the Golden Eagles to close out the Class B South schedule. Jaison Jerez went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI, while Jean-Carlos Jerez was 2-for-2 with a double and four RBI. David Patterson also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

 

Non-Division

Toms River North 2, Middletown South 1

Joey LaCava doubled home a run in the second inning and added a second run on a Beau Wyckoff single in the fifth as the Mariners edged the Eagles. Junior Brett Hyers went the distance for Toms River North.

Tom Mariniello drove in the lone Middletown South run with an RBI single in the seventh.

Mater Dei Prep 5, Monmouth 3 (8 Innings)

Patric Donohue hit a two-out, two-run single in the top of the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and the Seraphs outlasted the Falcons. Taylor Hardy fired four scoreless innings of relief for the win, while Matt Eckert was 2-for-3 with two doubles for Mater Dei Prep.

Joe Berner and Dan Valerio each had two hits for Monmouth.

Middletown North 8, Red Bank 6

Reid Baker hit a tie-breaking, two-run double in Middletown North's three-run top-of-the-seventh inning and the Lions beat the Bucs.

Phil Pecherski picked up the win with two innings of relief and also pushed home the tying run in the seventh with a squeeze bunt to score Ryan Byrd, who led off the inning with a walk and went to third on a double by Aaron Borrero.

Jacob Nappi gave Red Bank the lead in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to plate Jesse Mack, who doubled with two out.

Anthony Pianoforte had an RBI single in the third and also added a double for a two-hit game.

Toms River East at Manchester, 3:45 p.m.

Ocean 6, CBA 4

Lucas Snow earned his first varsity win with three scoreless innings of relief and Anthony Bartolomei picked up his first save as the Spartans edged the Colts. Jimmy McGrorry and Sam Maxwell each had an RBI single and Ocean took the lead when Frank Henry was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 5-4.

Manasquan 5, St. Rose 0

Austin Saito allowed only one hit over 6 2/3 innings and Tucker Caccavale came in to record a three-pitch strikeout and break the single-season school record for mound appearances (16) as the Warriors blanked the Purple Roses. Saito struck out seven and walked two.

Tanner Cowley opened the scoring with a two-out, two-run single in the first inning. Max Hawkins finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Pinelands 8, Brick Memorial 2

Chad Astemborski allowed one run over six innings and the Wildcats scored seven runs int he first inning en route to a win over the Mustangs.

Sage Sysol, Mitch Merrill, R.J. Rodriguez and Pat Spagnola each went 2-for-3, with Sysol knocking in two runs on a first-inning single and Merrill adding an RBI double in the first.

Brick Memorial senior center fielder and Wagner College recruit Kyle Cala recorded his 100th and 101st career hits, the latter of which was a single to set a school record for hits in a career. His 100th hit was a double in the first inning and he would score on a ground out by Brian Markoski. Cala reached the milestone despite missing the better part of three weeks in April with a knee injury.

Joe Trafficante made his 14th appearance of the season to set a single-season record for the program and also finished with a single-season program-best 0.60 earned-run average.

Toms River South 13, Monsignor Donovan 2 (5 Innings)

Senior Russell Messler collected three hits and ended the game with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to spark the Indians to a five-inning win over the neighboring Griffins.

Ray Ligouri and Tyler Fogler each hit a two-run single in a 6-run third inning for Toms River South, which tallied 14 hits in the game. Jesse Polozzo later added a two-run double in the fifth prior to the Messler homer.

 

Non-Conference

Southern 11, Winslow 10

Ronnie Velardi hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning - the first of his varsity career - to rally the Rams to a win over Winslow. Nick Sinopoli, Eric Hammell, Nick Scalone and Chris Starner all had three hits apiece.
