Colts Neck entered Saturday's District 22 Tournament at Middletown North without a district team title to their name. With seven top-seeded wrestlers at their disposal, though, it felt like this might finally be the year that the Cougars got over the hump. Five of those seven--Logan Waller, Luke Rada, Kenneth Koenig, Tomas Lidondici, and Michael Lyristis--were holding up district championship brackets at the conclusion of the event as Colts Neck finished at the top of the team leaderboard with 223 points, 25.5 points ahead of the defending-champion Lions.

While Middletown North was unable to repeat, they exited the gymnasium with plenty of accolades. Earlier in the day, Matt Sirchio was named the District 22 Head Coach of the Year. He was able to watch four of his wrestlers--Thomas O'Keefe, Eddie Farrell, Nico Cerbo, and Tyler Klinsky--win their finals matches. Klinsky was also named Outstanding Wrestler as he became a four-time district champion with his victory.

The Colts of Christian Brothers Academy finished third with 146.5 points and had the final two Shore Conference wrestlers who won finals matches. Freshmen Zander Silva and Tyler Barrett both won identical 5-3 decisions at 132 and 145 pounds, respectively, and will look to continue their success at regions next week.

Red Bank Catholic rounded out the top five in the team category with 93 points. The Caseys were led by Sabino Portella, Aidan Meyler-McAuliffe, and Matt Cody who each posted a second-place finish in the tournament.
