The final regular season edition of our Jersey Mike's Game of the Week featured a long-running rivalry between Toms River South and Toms River North in the annual match-up dubbed the 'Civil War.' Both teams had traveled through vastly different paths in 2019 leading up to Friday night's clash.

The Mariners, coming off of three straight shootout wins, entered at 7-1 and were fighting for one of the top seeds in their playoff bracket. On the other sideline, the Indians had struggled to a 2-4 mark and were essentially out of the playoff race.

The Indians won the toss and wanted the ball first, hoping to establish some early momentum. That momentum never presented itself, though, as the Indians would go three-and-out on their opening drive. Toms River North took full control, putting up 10 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second to enter halftime with a lopsided 31-0 advantage.

The Mariners would add another touchdown in the third to make the score 37-0. Toms River South did manage to put some points on the board via a 15-yard reverse pass by Tyler Madeo to Rob Marro, but a late TRN touchdown led to a 44-7 final score in favor of the Mariners.

Toms River North (8-1), the 2 seed in Central Group 5, will begin the playoffs at home with a match-up against South Brunswick (5-4) on Friday. Toms River South (2-5), meanwhile, will play Marlboro (3-6) at home in a regional crossover game on Thursday.

Special congratulations to our Ocean Trophies Players of the Game, the Toms River North offensive line. The quintet of John Muller, Jamie Hans, Cross Conlin, Najae Hallenbeck, and Jaden Schlosser earned the honor for their outstanding play in the trenches Friday night, keeping Kazanowsky upright and paving running lanes all game.
