Toms River South to Honor the Life of Longtime Girls Lacrosse Head Coach Janis Tice
A memorial dedication for longtime Toms River South girls lacrosse coach Janis Tice will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Detwiler Stadium.
A beloved figure at Toms River South, Tice passed away on March 5 at the age of 61 after a battle with cancer. She started the Indians' girls lacrosse program at the club level in the late 1980s and 1990s and guided the program into varsity status beginning in 1998. She remained head coach through the 2013 season.
Tice graduated from Paulsboro High School in 1974 and was inducted into the Red Raiders' Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011. She graduated from Rowan University (named Glassboro State College at the time) in 1978 and starred for the Profs on both the lacrosse and basketball teams. Tice was a health and physical education teacher at Toms River South for 30 years, retiring in 2010.
