Public Tournament, Sectional Semifinals

 

South, Group 4

(4) Southern 8, (1) Montgomery 4

The Rams (15-4) rallied from an early three-goal deficit to storm past the top-seeded Cougars and into their first sectional final since 2014.

Montgomery led 2-0 after the first quarter and 3-0 early in the second quarter before Southern began its comeback on a goal by freshman attackman Konnor Forlai at the 9:05 mark. Junior midfielder Jake Washco scored 59 seconds later to make it 3-2 and sophomore midfielder Joey DeYoung tied the game with 6:18 left in the half.

Junior attackman Ryan Sininsky gave Southern the lead for good with a goal 42 seconds into the third quarter and added another goal at 9:51 to make it 5-3. Junior midfielder Zach Washco then scored with 7:21 left in the third to make it a six-goal run and a 6-3 lead for the Rams. Montgomery got one back to make it 6-4 but DeYoung deposited his second goal of the game with 2:54 left in the quarter and Jake Washco completed his hat trick with just six seconds left in the third to give the Rams an 8-4 advantage.,

Southern's defense and junior goalie Tyler Sininsky closed it out in the fourth quarter, completing another fantastic defensive showing. After falling behind early, Southern allowed just one goal in the final 34 minutes of the game.

Southern will play at third-seeded Monroe in the South Group 4 sectional title game on Monday.

 

South, Group 2

1) Rumson-Fair Haven 20, (4) Allentown 5

The undefeated Bulldogs (19-0) flexed their muscles with seven multi-goal scorers to cruise to a victory over the Redbirds (13-3) and return to another sectional final.

Junior attackman Christian Bockelmann led the way with five goals while senior midfielder Patrick Jamin, senior attackman Luke Devilin, sophomore attackman Cole Cashion and junior midfielder Thomas French all had hat tricks. Senior face-off ace Tommy Swain won 24 of 28 at the face-off X.

Rumson will host Wall in the sectional championship game on Monday. RFH defeated Wall, 10-6, in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals on May 27.

 

(2) Wall 12, (3) Somerville 9

Senior attackman Logan Peters scored five goals and dished out two assists and junior midfielder Matt Dollive delivered two goals and three assists as the Crimson Knights (16-3) held off the Pioneers (9-7) to advance to their first sectional final in program history.

Connor Moore added two goals, Daniel Burns and John McCurry each had a goal and an assist and Ryan Brice scored once. Aiden Kessler made seven saves.

Wall led 6-5 at halftime and 8-6 entering the third quarter. The Crimson Knights went on a three-goal run to begin the fourth quarter, opening an 11-6 lead, before Somerville answered with three straight to make it a two-goal game again. Peters scored with 36 seconds left to ice the win and send Wall to the sectional title game.

Wall will play at top-seeded and undefeated Rumson-Fair Haven in the championship game on Monday. Rumson won 10-6 over Wall in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals on May 27.

 

South, Group 1

(2) Manasquan 12, (3) Glen Ridge 2

The two-time defending champion Warriors (16-3) used a balanced scoring attack and stingy defense to defeat the Ridgers (9-5) and advance to their fifth straight sectional final.

Senior midfielder Mike Farinacci scored three times while senior attackman Casey Mulligan, senior midfielder Hayden Grecsek and sophomore attackman Matt Porazzo each scored twice. Robert Pendergist, Owen McCusker and Blake Gorski had one goal each.

Manasquan will play at top-seeded Bernards in the sectional final on Monday.

Non-Public Tournament, Quarterfinals

Non-Public A

(2) Seton Hall Prep 13, (7) Christian Brothers Academy 5

Senior attackman Dan Martin scored twice and senior goalie Noah D'Andrea stood tall with a whopping 20 saves but it wasn't enough to avoid a defeat at the hands of the powerhouse Pirates (12-2).

Ryan Howard, Nick Blalock and Max Avrillon added one goal each for CBA (15-5).
