NONDIVISIONAL

Marlboro 8, Point Boro 7 (OT)

Tim Dwyer's extra-man goal 2:56 into overtime delivered the host Mustangs a thrilling victory over the Panthers on Saturday morning.

Dwyer finished with a game-high five goals while Dylan Portnoy had a pair of goals and Matt Webber scored once. Anthony Martino made 12 saves to earn the win in goal.

Kyle Rossi had a hat trick for Point Boro while Trevor McNamara sank a pair of goals and Liam Connolly had a goal and an assist.

 

Manasquan 10, Freehold Township 7

The Warriors (1-0) held off a game effort by the Patriots by scoring the final three goals of the game and escaping with a hard-rought nondivisional victory.

Senior attackman Jarrett Birch scored three times, as did senior midfielder Thad Wiseman, who received a boost in playing time due to an injury to senior standout middie Pat Felstedt. Sophomore attackman Canyon Birch scored twice, including the eventual game-winning goal in the fourth quarter, while Felstedt and senior John Moran had one goal and one assist apiece.

Senior goalie Tom Pollick made six saves playing the first half and sophomore Mike Lapoint stopped eight shots in the second half. Senior Matt Thermann won 10 of 17 face-offs.

Senior attackman Drew Dunn led Freehold Township with two goals and three assists while senior midfielder Mike Ferdinandi notched a goal and an assist. Josh Nastarowicz, Mike Colicchia, Mike Martino and Shawn Poole also scored for the Patriots.

Billy Patten made two saves playing in goal during the first half while Aidan Purcell stopped seven shots in the second half.

Manasquan led 3-0 after the first quarter, but Freehold Township scored two quick goals in the second quarter and remained close until the fourth quarter. Manasquan led 6-4 at halftime and 7-5 after three quarters, but goals by Dunn and Poole in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter pulled the Patriots even for the first time in the game. With 7:22 left in regulation, Canyon Birch scored unassisted for an 8-7 lead. Moran scored at 4:37 and Wiseman scored on a ridiculous shot as he was falling down to make it 10-7 with 2:22 to play.

 

St. Rose 15, Neptune 4

Griffins McDermott scored four goals and added three assists and Shane Reilly also had four goals plus one assist to power the Purple Roses (2-0) to a win over the Scarlet Fliers (1-1).

Chris Bormida had three goals and one assist and Mike Kinsel also tallied three times, while Jack Cusack had one goal. Robbie Brugnoli made 10 saves.

Kevin Clohosey scored twice and Tyler Rossi and Nick Brown had one goal each for Neptune. Chase Fairbanks picked up a game-high 10 ground balls.

 

Holmdel 8, Toms River North 5

Justin Arredondo led the way with four goals and one assist as the Hornets (1-1) opened a six-goal lead and held off a late rally by the Mariners (1-1).

Jake Preziose scored twice and Billy DiMaio and Kevin Burmeister each had one goal and one assist. Jack Cook went 15-for-17 on face-offs, picked up 11 ground balls and also had two assists. Tom Anderson made 10 saves.

 

Howell 8, Brick Memorial 7

The Rebels held off a furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt by the Mustangs (1-1) to improve to 2-0.

Howell led 7-0 entering the fourth quarter before the Mustangs went on a 7-1 run over the final 12 minutes. Brick Memorial cut Howell's lead to 7-3 before the eighth tally for the Rebels stood as the deciding goal.

Nick Lorenzo had a hat trick for Howell while Ryan Choffey had two goals and one assist. Ryan Damelio also scored twice and Drew Bukowiec added a goal and an assist. Nick Roberto made 17 saves.

Gavin Murphy led Brick Memorial with three goals while Henry Moran scored twice. Mike Mowder had a goal and an assist, Adam Plumacher scored once and Joey Ferrera had two assists. Matt Wood made nine saves.

 

Rumson-Fair Haven 9, Southern 1

The Bulldogs (1-1) outscored the Rams 7-0 in the second half to pull away and earn their first victory of the season. Oliver Heins led all players with three goals while Colin Pavluk scored twice. Alex Werner and Charlie Curran each had a goal and an assist while Bryan Hess and Andrew Walsh also scored for Rumson. Conor Deverin made five saves.

Will Johnson scored the only goal for Southern (1-2), which received a 22-save effort from goalie Tristan Farina.

 

Colts Neck 14, Shore 7

Senior attackman Vinnie Gargiulo pumped in a career-high eight goals and Rich Kremble added a hat trick to steer the Cougars (1-1) past the Blue Devils (1-1) in West Long Branch.

Nick Lago finished with a goal and three assists, Tyler Tomsen had four assists and Colin Scalea contributed a goal and an assist. Dean Posner also scored for Colts Neck while Brandon Cifone made 16 saves.

Jake Turner led Shore with three goals and Gil Goldsmith and Ryan Morris each had two goals and one assist. Jack Brignola made 14 saves.

 

NONCONFERENCE

Red Bank Catholic 11, West Orange 0

Jack Kapscos tallied three goals and two assists and Joey Caputo had a hat trick with one assist as the Caseys (1-1) bounced back from a season-opening loss to clip the Mountaineers. Ryan Schellin had two goals and one assist and Jack Zenkert also scored twice. Tyler Walderon made 10 saves.

 

Don Bosco Prep 12, CBA 5

Mike Carroll and Robbie Hermansen each scored twice but the Colts absorbed a road defeat to the Ironmen to open their season. Luke Valentino had a goal and an assist and Nick Casner dished out three assists. Ryan McGuiness made 14 saves.
