Tuesday, May 23

Non-Public A quarterfinals

2-Delbarton 7, 7-CBA 6

The Colts pushed the No. 1 team in the state to the very end before falling by one goal to end their season. Senior attackman Nick Casner led CBA with four goals and one assist while Luke Grover and Luke Valentino each scored once and Ryan McGuiness made 10 saves. Delbarton led 3-2 after the first quarter, 5-3 at halftime and 6-4 heading to the fourth quarter.

 

South Jersey Group II semifinals

2-Rumson-Fair Haven 10, 6-Somerville 1

Senior attackman Colin Pavluk and senior midfielders Garrett Sweely and Andrew Walsh each scored twice while Rumson's defense was outstanding in shutting down the Pioneers' offense to lead the Bulldogs back to the sectional final.

Pavluk scored twice in the second quarter, including a goal that beat the halftime buzzer to give Rumson a 2-1 lead at the break. The Bulldogs never looked back, scoring twice more in the third quarter and putting the game away with six goals in the fourth quarter. The defensive corps of Emmett Jennings, Dan Maloney and Stephen Edler spearheaded a dominant effort that held Somerville to just nine shots, including one each in the second and third quarters. Rumson held an astounding 49-9 advantage in shots.

Pavluk also had an assist to register a game-high three points. Senior attackman Charlie Curran and junior midfielder Wyatt Feinberg had a goal and an assist each, while senior midfielders Bryan Hess and Oliver Heins each scored once. Senior attackman Alex Werner had two assists. Senior goalie Conor Deverin needed to make just two saves to earn the win, both of which came in the second half.

Rumson now awaits the winner of Wednesday's semifinal game between Manasquan and Seneca.

 

Wednesday, May 24

South Jersey Group IV semifinals

1-Montgomery 14, 4-Freehold Township 3

2-Lenape 15, 3-Southern 5

 

South Jersey Group II semifinals

1-Manasquan 16, 5-Seneca 7

Senior attackman Jarrett Birch scored six times and sophomore attackman Canyon Birch tallied five goals as the defending champion Warriors (21-1) pulled away from the Golden Eagles (13-5) to get back to the sectional final.

Senior midfielder Pat Felstedt added three goals and one assist and sophomore midfielder James Pendergist had a goal and two assists. Senior attackman Joe Tonkovich scored once.

Manasquan will host No. 2 Rumson-Fair Haven in the South Jersey Group II sectional final, tentatively scheduled for noon on Saturday at Vic Kubu Warrior Field. Last season Manasquan won 8-4 over Rumson in the sectional final and less than two weeks ago won 8-7 in the Shore Conference Tournament championship game. Rumson won last season's SCT final over Manasquan, 8-5.
