Point Beach senior wide receiver/defensive back Noah Yates, a Shore Sports Network first-team All-Shore selection who led the Shore Conference with nine interceptions, verbally committed to Yale on Thursday night.

Yates, who also had an offer from Brown, was a ball hawk as a free safety in the secondary for a Point Beach team that went 10-2 and won the Central Jersey Group I title for its first state championship since the playoff system began in 1974. Yates led all of New Jersey with nine interceptions, including three that he returned for touchdowns in addition to making 36 tackles. He had a single-game school-record four interceptions in a win over Keansburg during the regular season. He also had 23 catches for 398 yards and six touchdowns at wide receiver.

Yates is also a standout on the Shore's top-ranked boys basketball team, as the Garnet Gulls are currently undefeated. He also is one of the school's top baseball players. Yates is the third Shore Conference senior to commit to an Ivy League program, joining Matawan defensive end/tight end Nick Tomkins, who is headed to Dartmouth, and Middletown South defensive tackle/tight end Tayler Hendrickson, who has committed to the University of Pennsylvania.
