PHOTOS: Ocean Township Defeats Shore Regional in First Outdoor Wrestling Match in Monmouth County History
Two days after Barnegat and Pinelands wrestled in the first outdoor match in Shore Conference history, Ocean Township and Shore Regional gathered under the sunny sky in West Long Branch on Saturday to become the first Monmouth County teams to wrestle outdoors.
The Spartans, ranked No. 7 in the Shore Sports Network Top 10, won nine of 14 bouts and defeated the host Blue Devils, 52-24, in the match, which was held on the turf at Shore Regional's Robert E. Feeney Field. Shore was originally set to host the first outdoor match in conference history on Saturday, March 20, vs. Red Bank Regional but the logistics could not be worked out with the wrestling officials organization and the match had to be moved inside.
The feature bout on Saturday came at heavyweight where Ocean senior Joe Teresi and Shore senior Cade Torres squared off. Teresi, ranked No. 3 in the SSN individual rankings, won by fall over No. 7 Torres 42 seconds into the second period.
