Brown’s 3 TDs Propel St. John Vianney Past Matawan 30-21
Senior quarterback Anthony Brown threw three touchdown passes and Calvin Beaty added a rushing touchdown for the Lancers (1-0, 1-0), who held off the Huskies (0-1, 0-1) to open their season and give head coach Derek Sinisnky his first win with the program.
Brown threw a 48-yard touchdown to senior Khalil Haskins in the second quarter, a 78-yard touchdown to Mike Stapert on a wide receiver screen and a 14-yarder to Chris Chukwuneke to seal the victory late in the fourth quarter. Beaty had a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Joe Rice booted a 48-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Matawan junior quarterback Jake Burlew got the start in place of injured sophomore standout George Pearson and ran for touchdowns of 14 and 41 yards. Makiya Ceasar added a one-yard touchdown run for the Huskies.
