Boys Soccer – Monmouth’s Anthony Cano Wins Week 3 Player of the Week Award
Week 3 Surf Taco Players of the Week
Anthony Cano, Monmouth
As a sophomore in 2021, not only was Anthony Cano an important part of Monmouth Regional's starting XI, but he was a defender with an ability to create offense and finish goals.
With most of last year's starters gone, Cano has had to be a leader, creator and finisher for the Falcons and he has been able to cover every base.
Last week, Cano scored both goals in Monmouth’s 2-2 draw against St. John Vianney, staking his team to a 2-0 lead before the Lancers rallied to salvage the inter-divisional tie.
Two days later, Cano scored again scored a goal in a 5-3 loss to Raritan in a Class A Central divisional showdown.
To date, Cano has been the Monmouth's top source for scoring, providing the Falcons with team-highs in both goals (6) and assists (4).
Cano is a Player of the Week winner for a second time, with his first win coming last season. The Falcons sophomore collected just under 37 percent of the vote to top runner-up Diego Nieves of St. Rose (21 percent). Central senior John Truhan (13.5) and St. John Vianney senior Danny Herndon (11.75) also crapped double-digit vote percentages this week.
For winning the latest Player of the Week award, Cano will receive a $25 gift card from Surf Taco.
