Nick Gallo, Howell
Howell had it all working in an opening-round win over Manalapan in the Shore Conference Tournament. The Rebels hit the 80-point mark and got a combined 51 points from seniors Zach Emery (27) and Joe Dupuis (24), with Emery hitting his career high.
As much as anybody, Gallo helped set the tone in that SCT win and then came up with a solid performance in next round’s loss at No. 1 Red Bank Catholic. To kick off the tournament, Gallo scored eight of his 14 points against Manalapan in the first quarter and also dished out four assists -- all of which came in the first half.
Red Bank Catholic jumped on Howell from the opening tipoff, but Gallo kept battling for the Rebels and finished up with 17 points to lead his team in defeat.
Gallo took home the Week 9 Player of the Week with 44 percent of the vote, which was just about four times more votes than runner-up Will Bradley from Christian Brothers Academy (11 percent). The eighth Player of the Week in 2021-22, Gallo will receive a $25 gift card to the Turning Point and a long-sleeve t-shirt courtesy of Seaview Orthopaedics.
