Baseball – Scorching St. John Vianney Shortstop, St. Rose Ace Take Home Week 5 Awards
Ocean County Sports Medicine Week 5 Player of the Week
Brady Oswick, St. John Vianney
Oswick has been locked-in all season long and in his team's last game of last week, he had the signature performance of his career, at least at the plate.
The Lancers senior shortstop put up a monster game on Thursday, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI. As great as the stat line was, it was his flair for the dramatic that stood out. Not only did the senior shortstop crack two homers; the second of the two was a walk-off, solo blast in the bottom of the seventh inning to give St. John Vianney a 6-5 win over Red Bank.
For the season, Oswick is hitting .524 with seven doubles, a triple, four home runs, 30 runs scored and 17 RBI to help pace a potent Lancer lineup.
Oswick won this week's contest with 23.2 percent of the vote, beating out three challengers who cracked 10 percent: Toms River South's Aidan Folsom (19.8), Mater Dei's Sean Hanna (15.1) and Rumson-Fair Haven's Owen Kenney (12.1).
Ocean County Sports Medicine Week 5 Pitcher of the Week
Ryan Rogers, St. Rose
Rogers has had a strong season at the plate, but it was his pitching that stood out last week. The senior left-hander pitched a three-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts and one walk in a 4-0 win over Ocean -- the first leg of a Purple Roses sweep of the Spartans in Class B North divisional play. It was the only two-game sweep for St. Rose within the division this season.
Rogers indeed had a big day at the plate as well, going 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI while also spinning his 13-strikeout gem.
This week's contest was a close one, with Rogers beating runner-up Zach Crotchfelt of Jackson Memorial by six votes.
For winning the Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, both Oswick and Rogers will receive a Player of the Week shirt courtesy of Ocean County Sports Medicine.
