The latest recipient of the fans’ voting is Jackson Memorial sophomore running back Mike Gawlik, who has been in the running several times this season and could not be denied after rushing for 149 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winning touchdown in overtime, in the Jaguars' 33-27 overtime classic against Red Bank Catholic. Jackson Memorial improved to 8-1 by ending a 40-game winning streak against Shore Conference competition by the Caseys dating back to 2010.

Gawlik now has rushed for a combined 10 touchdowns in his last three games, and also had a 48-yard scoring run in the win. In addition, he had a fumble recovery on defense, where he leads the team in tackles as a linebacker, to help set up a field goal.

The Jackson Memorial fans poured in votes for Gawlik, who won by the most lop-sided margin of the season with 64.4 percent of the vote to top second-place Derek Ernst of Raritan, who ran for 185 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Monmouth Regional.
