Middletown South entered the Shore Conference Tournament the No. 7 seed and ended it by defeating the No. 1 team in the Shore 16 in the semifinals on their way to winning the school’s first ever SCT. On top of that school history, Middletown South also earned the Week 7 Surf Taco Girls Soccer Team of the Week award, which comes with a $250 Gift Card from Surf Taco.

The Eagles did not have an easy road on their way to the championship. The week prior, in the quarterfinals, they defeated division rival and No. 2 seed Freehold Township, 2-1. Last week, they defeated Central Regional, which was ranked No. 1 in the Shore 16, in the semifinals, 1-0. Senior goalkeeper Allie Greco, who returned from an injury in the quarterfinals, had a remarkable second half to hand Central its first shutout of the season.

Middletown South faced division rival Howell, the No. 13 seed, in the SCT finals. What may have seemed like deja vu, both Freehold Township and Howell defeated Middletown South during the regular season and they both had the same player score the game-winners against them. Junior Natalie Percello scored both goals against Freehold Township and she scored the game-winner against Howell with less than five minutes left in regulation. Percello also scored the lone goal in the semifinals against Central Regional.

Middletown South will be the No. 1 seed in Central Jersey Group 3 and will attempt to win back-to-back sectional titles. The Eagles host No. 16 Neptune on Thursday at 4 p.m.
