On January 14th, Southern Regional held a 26-18 lead over Toms River North with three bouts remaining. Of course, the Mariners would go on to finish the evening with three consecutive wins giving them a 28-26 victory over the Rams. One month later, Southern had their chance at revenge when they traveled about 30 minutes north to RWJ Barnabas Health Arena for a sectional semifinal match-up against their A-South rivals.

While both teams finished with seven individual match wins, Southern utilized four falls at 132, 138, 182, and 106 pounds to power them to the victory. Heading into the 182 pound bout, both schools were tied at 20 as Stephen Jennings and Nick Mancuso took the mat. Jennings managed to turn the tide of the match with his pin of Mancuso at 4:14, giving Southern both a 26-20 advantage and all of the momentum. Southern Regional will travel to top-seeded Howell on Friday with a state sectional championship on the line. The Rebels downed Williamstown 43-31 on Wednesday night, continuing their impressive season.
