Class A North

No. 7 Middletown South 6, CBA 2

Senior Joe Stanzione hit a two-run double in a four-run sixth inning and sophomore Ben Schild struck out 14 in seven innings to earn his third win as the Eagles (10-3, 4-3) outlasted the Colts (4-7, 2-5) with some late offense.

Howell 10, No. 6 Freehold Twp. 4

Seniors Chris Ellison and Vin Impresa both homered and Ellison and senior Antonio Gatti each drove in three runs as the Rebels (6-6, 2-5) snapped a five-game losing streak to qualify for the Shore Conference Tournament by beating the Patriots (8-3, 7-2).

Junior Daniel Furlong went the distance for the win, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Senior catcher Griffin Murphy homered and drove in two to lead Freehold Township's lineup.

No. 3 Manalapan 11, Long Branch 0 (5 Innings)

Sophomore Cristian Bernardini went 2-for-3 with three RBI and senior Gino Gambale was 2-for-2 with two RBI to key the offense and back senior starter Justin Simone (four innings, three hits, six strikeouts, no walks) in a Braves (10-2, 6-1) win over the Green Wave (1-11, 0-7).

No. 4 Middletown North 8, Marlboro 2

Senior Colin Dowlen struck out 11 over five innings with two runs on five hits and two walks and the Lions (8-2, 5-2) cooled off the surging Mustangs (6-6, 4-5). Dowlen also went 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.

Senior Tyler Sharkey went 1-for-3 with two RBI and sophomore Ryan Frontera was 1-for-3 with two runs scored for Middletown North.

Senior Mark Capell was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Marlboro.

 

Class A Central

No. 2 Red Bank Catholic 5, Holmdel 4

Shane Panzini (3-for-4) and Anthony Borriello (2-for-5) each had multiple hits, doubled and drove in a run as the Caseys (11-2, 7-1) held off the Hornets (4-8, 3-4).

Sean Griggs and Sean Ettore each singled and drove in a run for RBC and Riley Supp doubled and scored one in the win.

Freshman Declan Leary picked up his third win on the mound for RBC.

Brett Hilsheimer doubled and drove in four of Holmdel's five runs while Andrew Woodward tripled and scored twice.

Ocean 10, No. 5 Rumson-Fair Haven 7

Senior Dillon Downs hit a go-ahead three-run double in the bottom of the fifth and the Spartans battled past the Bulldogs for their eighth straight win.

Junior Zach Lopes drove in the first of two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI single and the Falcons edged the Rockets, knocking Raritan out of the Shore Conference Tournament.

Senior Luke O'Hea tied the game with a two-run single in the third and scored on an error for a 3-2 Rockets lead.

St. John Vianney 7, Freehold Boro 5

Senior John Furch went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI and senior Ryan Sekman punched out 11 over five innings to lead the Lancers (4-3, 3-3) to a win over the Colonials (1-9, 1-6), clinching St. John Vianney a spot in the Shore Conference Tournament.

Sekman allowed one unearned run on three hits in picking up the win. Junior Dylan Galamb also delivered a pair of RBI while going 2-for-3.

Senior Chris Casale went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI for Freehold Boro.

No. 8 Wall 8, Matawan 4

Max Kaplan, Andrew Fischer and Nick Lovarco all went 2-for-3 with run-scoring hits during Wall's six-run sixth inning that put the game out of reach against the Huskies (6-3, 4-2).

Kaplan also added an RBI single to put Wall (10-3, 7-1) up 2-0 in the fourth inning and senior Christian Cosenza was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Jimmy Bertrand took a shutout into the seventh and finished with 6 2/3 innings of work before Jay Bant (two RBI) finished off the game on the mound. Jack Lacovara hit a two-run double for Matawan and Luke Elliot was 1-for-4 with two RBI in the loss.

Matawan used each of its top three senior pitchers for stints on the mound, with Mike Caldon allowing one run in two innings, Tim Egan giving up one in three and Wall tagging Eli Gries-Smith for four during the sixth.

Neptune 8, Manasquan 7

Nick Quagliato drove in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the seventh and the Scarlet Fliers (5-5, 3-4) pulled out a walk-off win over the Warriors (2-10, 2-5) to qualify for the Shore Conference Tournament.

Tyler Persico was 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run home run to give Neptune a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Dan Moran, meanwhile, was 4-for-4 with a double and RBI and Brian Young went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Neptune.

Cullen Condon was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Mike Antonucci went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI for Manasquan. Trevor Wells also went 2-for-4 with two doubles in the loss.

Colts Neck 11, Red Bank 7

Brad Salamone went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI to lead an early offensive outburst in a Cougars (8-4, 5-2) win over the Bucs (6-8, 3-5). Dave Cohen also drove in three while going 2-for-3, Collin Kratzer was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI and Cameron Knipp went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Anthony Gubitosi struck out seven with two hits and no walks over three shutout innings before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Sean O'Mara, Gus Dal Pra, Nate Ruth, Aidan Keale and Nick Ferrogine each had two hits for Red Bank, with Dal Pra driving in three and O'Mara knocking in two.

 

Class B Central

Ranney 16, Keyport 0 (5 Innings)

Sophomore Diego Tavarez pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and A.J. Gracia and Charlie Chropuvka both homered as the Panthers (9-2, 7-0) cruised to a win over the Red Raiders (3-3, 2-2). Sophomore Jack Tallent also went 3-for-3 with two RBI.

 

Class B South

Point Boro 6, Pinelands 5

Jason Bennett capped a seventh-inning rally with a game-winning two-run single and the Panthers (2-9, 1-8) scored five runs in the final at-bat to beat the Wildcats (0-9, 0-7).

Connor Cilento led off the inning with a double, which pushed Pinelands starter Stephen Demilio over his single-game pitch limit and forced a pitching change. After an infield single by Tommy Laspina, freshman Ryan Acquisto hit a two-run single to get the seventh-inning scoring started.

Point Boro loaded the bases for Chris Poggio, who kept the inning going with a one-out RBI single. Bennett then followed with his single to left that chased home starting pitcher Zach Hill and winning pitcher Trey Harpootlian with the winning runs.

Harpootlian pitched the last four innings to pick up the win.
