Central 13, Southern 11

Junior Shane Sajewicz went 4-for-6 with a double and four RBI to lead the Golden Eagles over the Rams in a wild opener for both teams.

Senior Trevor Coltenback went 3-for-4 with two RBI and senior Evan Agrapides was 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBI for Central. Golden Eagles freshman Cristian Soto made his high-school debut by going 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

Senior Nick Danbrowney pitched a six-inning shutout and smashed a home run and the Bengals hammered the Lions (1-1) to give coach Dan McCoy his 100th career win, as well as nab an opening-day win.

Junior Jared Schworn also belted two home runs and junior Bryan Snowden went a perfect 4-for-4 in the Barnegat rout.

Seniors Zach Gorman, Patrick Burns and Chris Corchado led an offensive assault that paced the Patriots (1-0) to a win over the rival Colonials (0-1) to open the season for both teams.

Gorman finished 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI, Corchado went 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBI and Burns was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in the win. Senior Nick Kolozsvary also went 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Freehold Township.

Senior Matt Villapiano struck out eight in four innings to earn the win, allowing three earned runs on three hits and a walk while throwing 88 pitches.

Senior Dominic Granata went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI to lead Freehold, which cut a 10-3 deficit to 10-9 with four runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth.

 

Brick 5, St. Rose 3

Junior Nick Hoheb came through with a pinch-hit, go-ahead, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Green Dragons rallied for a win over the Purple Roses.

Senior Ryan Duffy added an RBI single in the three-run sixth for Brick.

Colts Neck 10, No. 2 Manalapan 0 (5 Innings)

Junior Dave Cohen drove in four runs and junior Anthony Gubitosi fired a five-inning two-hitter with nine strikeouts to give the Cougars a convincing win over the Braves to open the season.

Cohen hit a bases-clearing double during a four-run fourth inning that put Colts Neck ahead, 9-0. He also plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the third and his single to left in the second led to the game's first run when the ball was misplayed in the outfield.

Junior Joe Cilea added an RBI triple to right in the three-run second and doubles by seniors Cameron Knipp and Matt Jacobson - with the later driving in the former - ended the game via the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fifth.

St. Augustine 5, No. 1 Jackson Memorial 4

Brody McKenzie delivered a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh and the Hermits rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to beat the Jaguars (0-1).

St. Augustine rallied against Jackson Memorial ace, whose perfect high-school record (8-0) remained intact despite surrendering the lead in the bottom of the fifth. McKenzie also came through with the game-tying hit - an RBI double off Potok.

Sophomore Charlie Meglio took the loss in relief, striking out a pair in the bottom of the sixth.

Junior Zach Crotchfelt drove in two runs for Jackson Memorial, which jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the end of the second inning.
