Quarterfinals

(6) Ocean 4, (14) Monmouth 2

Senior Max Winters helped ignite a three-run third with an RBI single, then fired four shutout innings of relief to help guide the Spartans past the Falcons and into the MCT semifinals for the second time in three years.

After Monmouth junior Alex Alonso retired the first eight Ocean batters on only 20 pitches, junior Brian Yatcilla fought off a two-out single to start the three-run rally. Junior Kevin D'Auria worked a walk and Winters followed with a lined shot into left to cut Monmouth's lead to 2-1.

Senior Ryan Toomey followed with a flare that dropped in shallow left field to tie the game at 2-2, then Ocean stole the go-ahead run with a first-and-third double-steal.

Sophomore Nick Callano added an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to give Winters and Ocean some breathing room.

Alonso helped his cause by leading off the top of the third with a triple and scored on an RBI suicide squeeze bunt by junior Mike Bateman. Senior Dante Ciaramella drove in the other Monmouth run with a two-out RBI single in the third.

Ocean will take on No. 2 and unbeaten Manalapan in Saturday's semifinal round.

(8) CBA 1, (1) Wall 0

Senior Connor Baksh scored on the back end of a first-and-third double-steal with two out in the top of the seventh inning and the Colts held on to beat the Crimson Knights and their ace, Trey Dombroski.

Baksh was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh and raced to third on a two-out single by junior Ben Settino. With junior Declan Hoverter at the plate and the count 2-2, Settino broke for second base and drew a throw from Dombroski to set up a rundown.

Second baseman Dylan Richey ran Settino back toward first and when he threw the ball to first baseman Tanner Powers, Baksh broke for the plate. Powers, a left-handed thrower, could not square up in time to make a strong enough throw home and Baksh dove in with the game's lone run.

The run was the first earned run Dombrowski has allowed this season and the loss just the second of his high school career. He faced a first-and-third situation with one out in the fifth and got back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.

The run in the seventh made a winner out of junior right-hander Pat Reilly, who finished off his outing with his 12th strikeout to end the sixth inning. Reilly allowed one-out baserunners in each of his final five innings but no Wall base-runner made it past second base.

Junior left-hander Evan Mahns closed out the game, with shortstop Tommy DiTullio handling the final out of the game and firing to first base.

CBA will travel to play No. 5 Manasquan in Saturday's MCT semifinal round but will first play two games this week against unbeaten Manalapan (14-0) in Shore Conference Class A North play.

(5) Manasquan 1, (4) Red Bank Catholic 0

Senior Spencer Bauer fired a one-hit shutout in his first start since opening day and the Warriors avenged a regular-season sweep at the hands of the Caseys by eliminating them from the MCT.

Bauer suffered a hamstring injury and returned to the lineup this past week before finally making his first start on the mound since a four-hit shutout vs. Monmouth Regional on April 2.

Junior Will Hopkinson provided the necessary offense with an RBI triple in the top of the fifth to break a scoreless tie.

Manasquan will host No. 8 CBA in the Monmouth County Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday.
