Monmouth County Tournament - Bracket

Round of 16

(4) Red Bank Catholic 8, (20) Red Bank 5

After more than a month out of action and two hitless games upon his return, senior David Glancy launched his first home run of 2019 Sunday as the Caseys topped the rival Bucs to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal round.

Glancy broke the hamate bone in his left hand and missed RBC's first 10 games before returning to the lineup earlier in the week. His two-run blast off Max Stamer was his first hit since returning to the batting order.

(10) Freehold Twp. 6, (7) Howell 5

Junior Jarrett Urban belted solo home runs in both the second and sixth innings and the Patriots hung on to beat the Rebels for the second time in three games this season - all over the past 10 days.

Sophomore Chris Corchado jump-started Freehold Township in the top of the first with a two-run double and later capped its scoring with an RBI single that proved to be the difference in the game.

Howell mounted a threat in the bottom of the seventh against sophomore Zach Gorman, who went the distance for his third win in three decisions this season. Gorman hit two batters with one out and sophomore Antonio Gatti hit a two-out single to load the bases.

Senior Kyle Brex roped his second double of the game to score two runs but Gatti got the stop sign at third as the tying run. Gorman then got senior Ryan Bearse to fly out for the final out of the game.

(14) Monmouth 8, (3) Middletown South 1

Junior Alex Alonso opened the scoring with a solo home run in the third inning and senior Chris Anfuso added a key double in both the third and fourth innings as the Falcons rode two-innings-worth of offense and six shutout innings from ace Dante Ciaramella to an upset win over the Eagles.

Monmouth will travel to play No. 6 Ocean in the MCT quarterfinal round on Sunday.

After Alonso's solo blast to left field - his first career varsity home run - opened the scoring, Anfuso followed with a two-out doubled to left-center and scored on a bloop single to shallow center by senior Eli Rife to make it 2-0.

Monmouth exploded for six runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run double to left-center by Anfuso, as well as a successful slash single by senior Jake Cushing to make the score 3-0.

Alonso also made a dazzling play at shortstop to help keep Ciaramella's pitch count in check long enough to complete the sixth inning. The junior ranged to his right, made a sliding stab on a ball that took a bad hop and fired to first for the second out of the fifth inning. Ciaramella made it through six innings on 96 pitches - one fewer than his limit for the day, according to the NJSIAA Pitch Limit Rules.

(8) CBA 6, (9) Marlboro 1

Senior Connor Baksh opened the scoring in a five-run CBA first with a two-run single that plated a third run on an error - all senior left-hander Joe Escandon would need to nail down a Colts win over the Mustangs and a spot in Sunday's quarterfinal round vs. the winner of Freehold Boro at top-seeded Wall.

Junior Ben Settino followed with a two-run triple to cap the scoring in the first and senior Tommy DiTullio tacked on a CBA run in the second with an RBI double.

Junior Alex Galvan blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to open up a four-run Manasquan lead and senior Alec Wells shut down the dangerous Cougars attack over four scoreless innings of relief to push the Warriors into the MCT quarterfinals Sunday at No. 4 Red Bank Catholic.

Junior Sam Del Guercio opened up the scoring with a two-run double in the bottom of the second and after Colts Neck junior Dan Cowles cut the lead in half with an RBI double in the top of the third, junior John Foreman got the run back with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning to put Manasquan ahead, 3-1.

(2) Manalapan 3, (15) Middletown North 2

Senior Ben Levine hit a game-winning, two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Braves walked off the Lions in the round of 16 to advance to the MCT quarterfinals with their 13th straight win to open the season.

Levine drove in all three Manalapan runs and finished a perfect 4-for-4 with a double at the plate.

Senior Matt Panzica led off the seventh with a single off Middletown North starter Sean Gardiner. Senior Jake Pellecchia sacrificed him to second base and senior Michael Kuver followed with an infield single to the right side to set up runners on the corners with one out.

Gardiner hit his single-game pitch limit during Kuver's at-bat, prompting junior Ryan Rozinski to take over on the mound with one out and the winning runs aboard. Rozinski struck out No. 3 hitter Nick DiPetrantonio looking on a 3-2 pitch for the second out to bring up Levine with the game on the line.

Kuver took second base on the 2-1 pitch to Levine with a 3-1 count and a base open, Levine struck again with the game-winning single to center field.
