Delbarton 9, No. 4 Red Bank Catholic 7

Red Bank Catholic touched up Vanderbilt commit and potential early draft pick Jack Leiter for three runs on 10 hits and five innings but the Green Wave homered three times and held off a seventh-inning rally by the Caseys.

Delbarton scored its fourth run of the game on a balk call in the fourth inning with runners on the corners and two out, then broke the game open on a three-run home run by North Carolina commit Shawn Rapp to make it 7-0.

Junior Jack Scrivanic and sophomore Shane Panzini hit back-to-back doubles to open the bottom of the fourth and break up the shutout bid by Leiter. Making his second start of the season, the Delbarton ace threw 93 pitches and was clocked from 92 to 96 miles per hour, according to a collection of swath of Major League scouts on hand.

Gonzalez opened the bottom of the sixth with a double and scored on a triple by senior and starting pitcher Vincent Bianchi. RBC added a run on an RBI infield single by junior catcher Chris Sparber.

Delbarton added an insurance run in the seventh when relief pitcher Matt Casey ripped a solo home run in his lone at-bat of the game.

RBC loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, prompting Delbarton to replace Casey with Rapp on the mound. The left-hander recorded the second out on a sacrifice fly by Scrivanic but walked Panzini and hit designated hitter Ray Martini. Junior Anthony Boriello beat out an RBI infield single and a second run scored on a throwing error to make the score 9-7.

Rapp ended the game by striking out leadoff hitter and senior second baseman Alex Gonzalez.

Another Vanderbilt commit burned the Caseys at the plate, with senior shortstop Anthony Volpe launching a two-run home run on the second batter of the game.
