Girls Basketball – Shore Conference Week 3 Player of the Week: Kiera McKown
The Basketball Player of the Week has been a staple of Shore Sports Network's coverage over the years and we have always left it up to the fans to decide the winner -- and still do. Now, SSN is recognizing its own choices for Player of the Week, not just in the Shore Conference, but in Monmouth and Ocean Counties individually.
Shore Conference Week 3 Player of the Week Presented by Surf Taco
Kiera McKown, Howell
McKown's performance in Week 3 helped Howell surge up the rankings into the Shore 16 and defeat two teams ranked in the Shore 16. In three games last week she averaged 11.3 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks a game.
Howell, who came into the week ranked 14th, played No. 13 Point Boro to open the week and McKown scored 8 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had 3 blocks against a tall Point Boro team.
McKown brought her “A” game against No. 6 Red Bank Regional filling every stat line. She had 8 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 blocks and 2 steals to help Howell upset RBR. Her defense in the post made it difficult for the Bucs to work the ball into their center Caroline Polloway, tipping or causing passes to become turnovers.
McKown ended the week with a double-double against Toms River East. She scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and on the defensive end had 2 blocks and 2 steals. McKown enters week 5 with four consecutive double-doubles and has six on the season.
