Group II
Pascack Hills 1, Rumson-Fair Haven 0
Sean Busanic blooped a single just inside the leftfield line in shallow left to score the go-ahead run with two out in the bottom of the sixth and junior left-hander Joey Giordano finished off a three-hit shutout as the Broncos beat the Bulldogs for their third state title in the last six years.
Giordano started the winning rally with a one-out single to left and catcher Dominick Musco followed with a line-drive single to left-center that was bobbled, allowing Giordano to sprint into third with the go-ahead run and one out.
Rumson-Fair Haven senior right-hander Jackson Hinchcliffe hit Ryan Belcolle to load the bases with one out, but the Richmond-bound senior induced a foul pop-out to catcher Owen Kenney for the second out.
Hinchcliffe got ahead of Busanic with strike one and jammed him on a 0-1 offering, but Busanic muscled it into the outfield and kept it fair to score Giordano from third.
Musco attempted to score from second, but Rumson-Fair Haven junior leftfielder Jack Riva threw him out at home plate, with Kenney applying the tag for the final out of the sixth.
Giordano made sure the run stood up by recording the first out of the seventh on a groundout to second base, then striking out the final two batters of the game.
The leadoff hitter reached for Rumson in five of the first six innings, but the Bulldogs could not convert any of them into runs. Sophomore centerfield Parker Shenman led the first inning off with a walk and the sixth with a single, followed by a stolen base in each inning.
In the first, Shenman made it to third base with two out and Giordano left him there. In the sixth, he stole second with none out, but was stuck there after two strikeouts. A wild pitch moved Shenman to third and Kenney worked a walk before stealing second, giving the Bulldogs two runners in scoring postion.
Giordano buckled down and induced a comebacker to the mound to end the threat.
Senior second baseman Griffin Shenman led off the third with a double to the warning track in leftfield and advanced to third with two out, but was left there.
Hinchcliffe retired eight straight batters before Giordano's single that started the winning rally.

Non-Public A
Don Bosco Prep 4, Red Bank Catholic 1
Senior left-hander Mike Staiano bounced back from allowing a first-inning run to throw five straight scoreless innings and also knocked in a run with an RBI single as the Ironmen topped the Caseys to win their second straight Non-Public A championship.
Red Bank Catholic started strong with a single from junior third baseman Sean Griggs, followed by a double down the leftfield line by senior first baseman Frank Scrivanic that set up a sacrifice fly by senior catcher Shane Andrus to stake the Caseys to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
RBC junior right-hander Steve Svenson was one strike away from stranding a Don Bosco runner at first base in the bottom of the first, but senior first baseman Allen Hernandez slammed a 1-2 pitch into the right-centerfield gap to chase senior shortstop Eric Becker -- who walked with two out -- home from first with the tying run.
Svenson then retired the next seven consecutive Don Bosco batters, but the Caseys could not capitalize on their baserunners during that stretch. Senior centerfielder Matt Brunner doubled to lead off the second and advanced to third on a solid single to center by senior Brendan Kopec, setting the Caseys up with runners at the corners and none out.
Staiano dug in and recorded the first out of the inning with a strikeout, then induced an inning-ending double-play, turned by Becker at shortstop and second baseman Andy Granatell.
Becker broke Svenson's streak of seven straight batters retired with an opposite-field single leading off the top of the fourth, which jumpstarted the winning rally. Becker then broke for second as Granatell scorched a single into centerfield and rumbled around second base toward third on the hit-and-run.
Brunner unleashed a strong throw, but it short-hopped Griggs at third and got past him, rolling all the way to the edge of the RBC dugout. Becker continued home for the tiebreaking run and Granatell moved into second base.
Staiano then aided his own case by chopping a two-out single through the middle to chase home Granatell for a 3-1 lead. On the next pitch, sophomore Nick Becker blasted a double over Brunner's head in center to score Staiano all the way from first.
Once he had the lead, Staiano locked in, holding RBC to one hit over his last three innings of work after the Caseys manufactured five hits during the first three. RBC's best chance to get back in the game came in the sixth, when Scrivanic led off with an infield single for his third hit of the game.
Staiano then struck out Andrus on a picturesque, 2-2 changeup and got away with a mistake when leftfielder Mike Hanna tracked down sophomore Dylan Passo's lineout to left-center.
RBC extended the inning when Brunner was hit by a pitch, but Staiano finished off his night with a strikeout to turn away the Caseys.
Caseys senior right-hander Ethan Marzo took over on the mound with a runner on second and two out in the bottom of the fifth and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts to keep the deficit at three runs.
Sophomore Dylan Henshaw got the ball in the seventh for Don Bosco and fired a one-two-three inning to close out the championship.
