Class A North

No. 9 Freehold Twp. 58, Marlboro 53

Senior Mike Alexander scored nine of his team-high 13 points in the first quarter and the Patriots held off a fourth quarter rally by the Mustangs to earn an opening-night win. Senior Justin Markowitz scored a game-high 15 points to lead Marlboro and junior George Elghoul added 14 in the loss.

No. 3 CBA 71, Manalapan 53

Senior guard Louie Pillari scored a game-high 22 points and junior Jack Laffey added 17 to lead the Colts to a win over the Braves to open the season. Junior Kyle Mullin led Manalapan with 21 points.

Colts Neck 46, Middletown South 45

Junior guard Chris O'Reilly buried a foul-line jumper with 3.8 seconds left to give the Cougars the lead and they held on for an opening-night win over the Eagles. O'Reilly and sophomore Lloyd Daniels each led Colts Neck with 11 points and O'Reilly added five rebounds and four assists. Senior Matt Gray led Middletown South with 19 points.

Middletown North 61, Howell 37

Senior Ian Wyckoff scored 18 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists and the Lions won their opener over the Rebels. Junior Dylan Frawley chipped in nine points and 10 rebounds, while junior Donovan Griffiths led Howell with 15 points.

 

Class A Central

Holmdel 48, Raritan 26

Senior Gerard Nocera scored 21 points and junior Jeff Harris added 10 to lead the Hornets to a win over the Rockets.

Manasquan 59, No. 10 Red Bank Catholic 31

Senior guard Jack Fay poured in 26 points and the Warriors routed the Caseys to open up their season. Sophomore Ryan Jensen added nine points and 10 rebounds while senior Tom Toole had nine points, seven rebounds, eight assists and five steals. Sophomore Jack Sheehan scored nine points and handed out seven assists in his varsity debut.

Toole also defended RBC sophomore standout Eddie Hahn, who led the Caseys with 11 points.

St. John Vianney 37, Monmouth 25

Sophomore Zach Howarth scored a team-high 11 points and Vinny Fachino added nine to help the Lancers top the Falcons in their season-opener. Sophomore Matt Mooney led Monmouth with 12 points.

Rumson-Fair Haven 64, No. 4 Shore 58

Sophomore point guard Brendan Barry scored 20 points and knocked down five of Rumson's 10 3-pointers as the Bulldogs knocked off the rival Blue Devils to start their season. Junior Tom Famulary added 19 points for Rumson and senior Jack Herrmann overcome foul trouble to net 13.

Junior Kevin Bloodgood led Shore with 19 points and senior Dan Pillari scored all 14 of his points in the first half.

 

Class A South

Toms River North 61, Brick 39

Junior Ted Thelemaque scored 19 points and junior Evan Martin added 17 points and six assists as the Mariners began their Class A North title defense by beating the Green Dragons. Junior Brian Oehme led Brick with 18 points.

No. 5 Jackson Memorial 49, Brick Memorial 40

Junior guard and Monsignor Donovan transfer C.J. Blue scored 15 points in his Jackson Memorial debut to lead the Jaguars to a win over the Mustangs.Senior Sean O'Brien led Brick Memorial with 10 points.

Toms River South 53, Lacey 51

Junior Tymere Berry scored on a putback with 3.8 seconds left and the Indians rallied from a 12-point deficit with 4:30 left to beat the Lions in their opener. Lacey led 49-37 with 4:30 left before Toms River South closed with a 16-2 run.

Berry finished with a game-high 18 points and senior Marquis Davis added 13 in the win. Senior Anthony Talarico led Lacey with 15 points on five 3-pointers, while senior Jordan Arce added 12 and junior Chris Iappico chipped in 11.

 

Class B North

Neptune 56, Freehold 52

Senior Shakeem Richardson scored a game-high 22 points and the Scarlet Fliers held off the Colonials to open their season. Senior Myles Mooney added 15 for Neptune, while Freehold senior Dan Parr led the Colonials with 19 points.

No. 6 Long Branch 54, Ocean 32

Senior Terrel Cox scored a game-high 20 points and the Green Wave cruised past the Spartans to open its season. Ocean senior Chris Seager scored a team-high 11 points in the loss.

No. 8 Matawan 57, Red Bank 48

Senior Chris Tawiah and junior Joe Piscopo scored 17 points apiece and the Huskies overcame a 21-8 first-quarter deficit to beat the Bucs. Sophomore Sadiq Palmer led Red Bank with 16 points.

 

Class B Central

Keyport 83, Asbury Park 54

Senior Alex Thomson had a triple-double with 29 points, 12 assists and 12 rebounds as the Red Raiders rolled by the Blue Bishops in their season opener. Thomson was one of five Keyport players to score in double-figures, with Zach Ochs and Travis Alvarez each scoring 14, Jeff Sheard netting 11 and Kevin Walsh adding 10.

Robert Barksdale and Cishiume Simmons each scored 12 points to lead Asbury Park, which was outscored 53-20 over the second and third quarters.

St. Rose 63, Henry Hudson 39

Senior Dan Borner scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Purple Roses to a win over the Admirals on opening night. Junior Nolan Slattery added 14 points for St. Rose in the win, while Jaxon Terrell led Henry Hudson with 14 points.

No. 1 Point Beach 75, Keansburg 23

Mater Dei Prep 50, Ranney 31

Senior Sam Miles had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the Seraphs to a win over the Panthers to start their season. Joe Esquival-Murphy led Ranney with 13 points.

 

Class B South

Pinelands 50, Central 45

Junior Zack Wiatrowski scored 13 points and junior Milanj Coursey added 11 to help the Wildcats top the Golden Eagles. Junior Evan Lang led Central with 16 points.

Jackson Liberty 64, Barnegat 52

Senior James Sofield scored 22 points and senior Mike Healy added 20 to help the Lions rally from a three-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter on the way to a win over the Bengals. Sophomore Nick Camarato led Barnegat with 14 points and junior Kyle Morris had eight points, 16 rebounds and five blocks.

No. 2 Lakewood 70, Manchester 48

Monsignor Donovan 62, Point Boro 44
